Position: Strategic Communications & Storytelling Associate
Reports to: VP of Development
Location: Atlanta, Georgia. AWBI operates under a hybrid work policy, with most staff working remotely, except for one anchor day in the office each week.

Atlanta Wealth Building Initiative (AWBI) is a catalytic nonprofit striving for shared prosperity by building Black wealth through community wealth-building strategies. POSITION SUMMARY
AWBI seeks a seasoned Strategic Communications & Storytelling Associate to lead communication efforts, amplifying the mission of building Black wealth. This role involves developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive communication strategies, shaping narratives, and challenging systemic bias.
The Strategic Communications & Storytelling Associate’s primary functions include:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement an integrated, organization-wide strategic communications plan.
Media Relations: Serve as the primary spokesperson, ensuring understanding of AWBI’s mission.
Content Development & Delivery: Oversee development and dissemination of all communication materials.
Crisis Management: Lead crisis communications planning and response.
Digital and Social Media Strategy: Maximize AWBI’s presence across digital platforms, engaging audiences.
Message Development: Shape and communicate AWBI’s narrative to diverse audiences.
Brand Management: Ensure consistent branding across all communication channels.
Special Events: Design and conceptualize events aligned with the organization’s mission.
Monitoring and Analytics: Monitor, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies.
Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Develop and manage the communications budget efficiently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications & Leadership:
- Create a clear vision for communication serving AWBI’s mission.
- Ensure ethical, respectful communication aligned with AWBI’s core mission.
Media Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and influencers.
- Serve as a primary spokesperson for AWBI.
Content Development & Delivery:
- Develop marketing materials for strategic highlights and campaigns.
- Support the leadership team with talking points and presentations.
- Plan and schedule content releases in alignment with organizational events.
Crisis Management:
- Develop a plan for handling negative feedback or PR crises.
- Implement tools to monitor media mentions and identify potential issues.
Digital and Social Media Strategy:
- Manage all social media accounts, developing a content calendar.
- Ensure consistent voice, tone, and visuals across platforms.
Message Development:
- Craft and refine key messages conveying AWBI’s values.
Brand Management:
- Ensure communication efforts underscore AWBI’s core mission and values.
- Oversee consistent use of logos, colors, and typography.
Special Events:
- Manage events promoting AWBI’s visibility, sustainability, and impact.
Monitoring and Analytics:
- Provide regular reports on communication activities and ROI.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in strategic communications.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing communication campaigns.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.
- Deep commitment to AWBI’s mission and values.

COMPENSATION
AWBI offers a competitive base salary, health, vision, dental, life insurance, 401(k), and vacation benefits. Minimum salary is $70,000; final salary commensurate with market and experience.
