This position leads the communications function of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). The ideal candidate will have direct experience in finance, banking or bank regulation, with a strong commitment to the organization’s mission. The individual will provide skilled communications strategy to enable the organization to achieve its strategic objectives. The person will cultivate and maintain relationships with the financial press and lead and support executive-level communications for both staff and members. CSBS utilizes several communications channels and seeks a dynamic and creative approach to communications. This position reports to Senior Executive Vice President, has multiple direct reports and serves as an important member of the CSBS Senior Leadership Team.

Create a broad strategic communications vision for CSBS

Actively participate in policy deliberations and develop appropriate communications strategy to maximize advocacy

Develop and implement communications strategies and opportunities for the CEO that enhances his brand as a policy thought leader and association executive.

Ensure that the communications plans, statements and editorials are provided by appropriate individuals in keeping with strategic communications objectives

Participate in operationalizing the CSBS Strategic Plan from the communications perspective

Develop a variety of digital avenues to promote CSBS’s message and brand

Manage crisis communications

Direct and provide a strategic framework for outreach to the media

Oversee the content of public and member communications, letters, editorials and other communications to ensure that they align with the strategic objectives of the organization

Effectively represent CSBS both internally and externally and manage key relationships with a broad range of high-level stakeholders from a strategic perspective


Additional Responsibilities

Edit annual reports, testimony and white papers

Facilitate ongoing communications training for the CSBS team and Board Members

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.


Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in communications, public relations, English, or journalism

10 plus years of relative experience is required with increasing levels of responsibility for organizational communications, media relations, public affairs and public policy.

Direct experience in finance, banking or banking regulation preferred.

Proven experience planning, writing, editing and producing newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature and other print publications
