Position Summary
As Vice President of US Government Affairs, you will be reporting to ARM’s Chief Strategy Officer and accountable for Federal Advocacy, US Alliance Development, and Policy functions.
This is a hybrid position based in the DC Metropolitan area. The person in this role will be required to be in the office at least two days per week, including Wednesdays. Our office is located in Washington, DC.
Job Duties
- Lead the tactical execution of ARM’s mission and core Congressional and various Agency components of the Alliance’s long-term strategic plan for the US.
- Leverage one’s understanding of the external environment to identify possibilities and create opportunities for the CGT Sector.
- Drive the development of stakeholder engagement and advocacy strategies (including developing and fostering strong relationships with Congress and the Executive Branch), in partnership with Communications, Policy, and member-company leadership, to achieve ARM’s advocacy goals.
- Help to safeguard the Alliance’s reputation and building an ambassadorship among the ARM membership.
- Successfully deliver a clear and integrated engagement strategy, ensuring that ARM and its membership are aligned in communicating and helping shape the environment in support of:
- Patient access in the payer and regulatory domains;
- Adequate reimbursement for innovative technology;
- Advancing initiatives which would ensure the sustainable economic expansion and competitiveness – as well as US leadership in scientific application and technological development of the CGT Sector.
- Partner with other departments within ARM to ensure the organization continues to grow, well-represent the interests of our Membership, and remain a catalyst for the broader CGT community; this includes partnering with Regulatory Policy, Scientific Affairs, Membership and Events, General and Administrative, and other functions across ARM.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BS or BA required (MBA, MPH, JD, or other advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of management or consulting experience in federal government affairs – with particular emphasis on engagement within the Department of Health & Human Services and related oversight Congressional Committees.
- Previous experience within a corporate federal government affairs function or DC–based biotech/pharma industry associations is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully establish and achieve quantitative metrics for the US Government Affairs team.
- In-depth understanding of reimbursement, market development, drug approval process, and other relevant regulatory issues affecting global competitiveness of the pharmaceutical-biotechnology sector, especially innovative CGT technologies.
- The desire and the ability to investigate, learn, and master subject matter areas in which they are not currently knowledgeable. The candidate is committed to drawing from the experience of others.
- Demonstrated affinity for processing complex information and summarizing it concisely in writing and/or verbally in a professional and time-sensitive manner.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop staff within ARM.
- Demonstrated ability to expand ARM’s federal Political Action Committee (PAC).
- Executive presence with the ability to establish a high degree of emotional intelligence skills in engaging across senior ARM Leadership, BOD, and member-company leads.
- Proven track record of exceptional teamwork, communication, and relationship management skills (including proven ability to lead and manage contract consultants).
