Job Description:

Vice President, International Bank Policy

The Vice President, International Bank Policy is the senior policy advocate for Bankers Association for Finance and Trade (BAFT) and works closely with the senior subject matter experts and BAFT CEO to drive policy advocacy on a range of issues for the association. The individual will directly engage in policy advocacy on a global basis and build industry coalitions with local or other global industry organizations to support engagement in various geographies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategy, lead, and execute international government relations in coordination with the BAFT Board, Regional Councils, members, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead global advocacy campaigns affecting positive changes to regulatory/legislative issues impacting the transaction banking industry.
  • Serve as an industry expert for transaction banking policy issues.
  • Formulate public policy positions, draft position papers, enact coalition campaigns, and engage/direct meetings with regulatory, legislative, and agency staff.
  • Form and lead advocacy issue working groups on industry priority issues that are not covered by other subject matter experts; form and lead new committees and working groups as needed.
  • Work with BAFT staff members responsible for Trade, Payments, and Financial Crime work streams, to champion advocacy initiatives that may originate from those member groups.
  • Represent BAFT through various speaking engagements and conference panels.
  • Contribute articles, papers, and interviews on BAFT industry advocacy initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by business need.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or advanced degree.
  • At least 10 years of experience in financial services policy development or advocacy.
  • Experience in international finance or simply international policy development preferred.
  • Experience engaging senior policymakers, senior business leaders, and people from diverse cultures.
  • Experience managing multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing and writing policy position papers.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter requiring minimal supervision with good decision-making skills.
  • Excellent project management skills; experience leading or managing independent resources with no direct reporting relationship.
  • Experience leading meetings, synthesizing discussion topics, outlining, and driving follow-up.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong customer service orientation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word, Excel PowerPoint; strong understanding of database/website management tools/technology implementation process.
  • Ability to travel (<20%).
