## Summary:
AXPC is seeking a Vice President of Government Affairs to serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and lead the organization’s advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. This is a senior leadership role requiring energy policy experience, strong bipartisan relationships on Capitol Hill and with the Administration, and the judgment to translate policy dynamics into effective advocacy strategy. The ideal candidate brings a track record of achieving legislative and regulatory objectives, building coalitions across diverse stakeholder groups, and engaging at the board level with senior industry leaders.
## Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develop and drive AXPC’s overall advocacy strategy, translating policy priorities into integrated plans across policy and communications workstreams.
• Coordinate with cross-functional counterparts to provide input and support for AXPC’s regulatory priorities.
• Build and maintain bipartisan relationships with Members of Congress and Congressional staff, with a focus on key decisionmakers.
• Engage directly with AXPC’s Board of Directors and member company executives, presenting strategic advocacy updates, supporting board-level decision-making, and building trusted relationships with senior industry leaders.
• Oversee the management of the US Energy PAC.
• Supervise and coordinate the activities of external consultants working with the association, ensuring that their work aligns with and bolsters advocacy efforts and strategic planning aimed at advancing AXPC’s priorities.
• Manage and develop two direct reports: the Director of Government Affairs and the Manager of Public Affairs (a shared position with the Communications team); provide clear direction, regular feedback, and support for professional growth.
• Build and manage strategic coalitions with aligned trade associations, industry partners, and external stakeholders; represent AXPC in key external forums to advance shared policy objectives and expand the organization’s influence.
• Represent AXPC at Congressional roundtables, forums, and other events.
• Oversee the development and distribution of content to member companies, including a weekly newsletter.
• Lead the weekly meetings of the Government Affairs Committee to provide updates on upcoming Congressional activities and AXPC’s strategic initiatives.
• Manage AXPC’s Tax and Legal Committee with the Chair and Vice Chair.
• Oversee AXPC’s yearly Board of Directors and Government Affairs fly-ins.
## Requirements:
• The ideal candidate would have 10–15 years of professional experience in energy and environmental policy.
• Extensive experience spanning both government service (Capitol Hill, Administration, or federal agency) and the private sector (industry, trade association, or policy organization); candidates with experience in both environments are strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing priorities and exercise sound judgment in evaluating such situations and issues.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
