Job Summary
The VP Public Affairs will apply their expertise in public policy and political campaigns to increase the impact of the broader public affairs team. He/she will report to SVP Public and External Affairs.
Job Description
Core Responsibilities
- Serves as a key component of Comcast’s overall advocacy by developing and helping to manage public affairs campaigns.
- In coordination with our Public Policy, Federal Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and External Affairs teams, identify and lead our response to issues that require campaign advocacy support.
- Provide expertise and guidance for colleagues in building effective campaign and advocacy tools and approaches into their work.
- Design, implement, and manage multi-faceted, integrated campaigns to position company issues and priorities with key audiences that may include elected officials, media, and consumers.
- Work with industry partners, trade associations, and third parties to help manage formal and ad hoc coalitions.
- Manage/guide document creation process to ensure timely turnaround times (i.e. messaging material, talking points, and other collateral material)
- Manage consultants to ensure quality and timely work.
Professional Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 10 to 15 years of external affairs, government affairs, campaign, or related advocacy experience;
- Must have proven track record of political experience, working on either political campaigns and/or corporate public affairs campaigns;
- Proven campaign/issue management experience;
- Ability to influence, negotiate with, and build consensus with others.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with consistently high-quality work product;
- Maintains the highest levels of ethical conduct and integrity.
- Experience managing initiatives through complex organizations
- Detail oriented with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Approximately 25% travel;
- Strong interest in cable, communications, Internet and media law desirable.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree
While possessing the stated degree is preferred, Comcast also may consider applicants who hold some combination of coursework and experience, or who have extensive related professional experience.
