Summer Wrap Up and Looking Ahead to Fall

[vc_single_image image=”111219″ img_size=”500×300″]

It’s been a long, hot summer in D.C. and as the temperatures begin to break, we’re looking back on the highlights of a busy and productive season here at the Council. Between welcoming members back to our offices for events, putting together member resources and planning for a busy fall, we’ve been working hard to ensure members are equipped to tackle any challenge they face.

Here are a few things we’ve been up to:

[vc_toggle title=”Read More”]Back to in-person programs at the Council offices!
In July we opened the doors to our newly remodeled conference room for our Public Affairs Leadership Summit. We hosted over 30 in-person attendees and over 30 more on our updated virtual streaming platform for the two-day event. It was the perfect return after a two-year hiatus from in-office events.

It wouldn’t be a proper welcome back without some fun with friends and peers. Following the first day of content at the Public Affairs Leadership Summit, we welcomed attendees, local Council members and public affairs practitioners to our office for happy hour and conversations. We hosted over 100 attendees and are excited to continue to bring the community together!

Resources to help you do your job better.
Since June, the Council has posted over 20 resources on Council Connect. These include seven webinar recordings, our latest political insights slide deck from Nathan Gonzales and several sample resources for your political programs. Our top 3 trending resources from this summer were:

  1. Webinar: Political Update with Nathan Gonzales: Election 2022 – 90 Days Out
  2. Fly-In One Pagers/ Leave Behinds
  3. Webinar: Engaging the Next Generation in Grassroots

As a Council member you have access to all our past webinar recordings, resource libraries and discussion boards on Council Connect.

Always here to answer your questions.

This summer our staff experts fielded over 170 member requests! Whether you’re looking for resources related to employee advocacy, have a question about how Facebook’s algorithm changes may affect your campaigns or need benchmarks on PAC participation rates, we’re here to help! This service is included in your Council membership. You can either contact one of our staff experts or log in to Council Connect and post your question for your peers to weigh in on.

What’s on the horizon this fall?

Summer may be ending, but the Council’s calendar is heating up. This fall we will release three surveys. Look for the annual Public Affairs Pulse survey in late September. Our most comprehensive salary survey to date will be released in October. And our Social Impact Survey, a follow-up to last year’s DEI Trends in Public Affairs Report , will be released in November. Be on the lookout for these highly anticipated reports!

This fall we are also hosting four signature events! The Digital Media & Advocacy Summit (Sept. 21) and the State & Local Government Relations Conference (Sept. 22-23) will be held in Alexandria, Va. The Public Affairs Study Tour will be held in Washington, D.C. (Oct. 12-14), and we look forward to hosting our newest signature event in its second year, STRIDE: A Social Impact Summit, also in D.C.  (Nov. 9-10). We hope to see you this fall![/vc_toggle]

Meet the Council’s Newest Staff Expert, Anna Platt

[vc_single_image image=”111221″ img_size=”large”]

We’re excited to introduce you to the newest member of the Council team! Anna Platt, the Council’s new senior manager of Government Relations, is a fantastic resource as you develop and manage your government relations initiatives. Get to know Anna and reach out anytime!

[vc_toggle title=”Get to Know Anna”]Q: What drew you to a career in public affairs?
A: My career, until this point, largely took place in the Congressional arena.  One of my favorite things about working on Capitol Hill was all of the different people I met, representing different personal stories, industries and perspectives.  Working in public affairs allows me to continue that.

Q: What advice do you have for professionals working in government relations this year?
A: I’d say (and I don’t think I’m alone in thinking this) that this election cycle is one where it’s really difficult to predict what’s going to happen, so planning for different potential outcomes and future political landscapes will be important.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about part of the Council team?
A: I’m really looking forward to continuing to meet all the Council’s fantastic members!

Q: When I’m not in the office you can find me…
A: …running along the National Mall, taking a boxing class, or cooking for friends.

Q: How can members reach you?
A:Members can reach me via email, [email protected], or by giving me a call at 202-787-5955. I hope you’ll be in touch![/vc_toggle]
