The Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM)

The Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM) is dedicated to protecting Maine’s natural resources, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting Maine’s communities. We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team as Grassroots Outreach Manager. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental campaigns and make a difference in Maine.

The Grassroots Outreach Manager helps build public support for NRCM and its advocacy campaigns by engaging and mobilizing NRCM members and activists, other organizations, businesses, strategic partners, and other audiences. The Grassroots Outreach Manager will report to the Outreach Director and work collaboratively with the Outreach team and other Advocacy staff to carry out a variety of organizing and mobilizing activities across a range of pending environmental policy issues in Maine. Travel and working after hours are required for this position for occasional evening and weekend events and meetings. Read a full job description and apply.

Working at NRCM

NRCM staff members are among the most respected professionals in their fields. We attract extraordinary individuals from across the state and the country—people who want to make a difference in the world by using their knowledge, talents, and experience to protect the nature of Maine. Every member of the NRCM team appreciates our science-based mission and is fully committed to safeguarding the iconic wildlife and magnificent landscapes that make Maine such a highly desirable place to live, work, and play.

We bring incredible passion to the work we do. That includes team meetings, brainstorm sessions, strategizing, and planning. The atmosphere at NRCM, whether online or in person, is exceptionally collegial, and we go to great measures to support one another, regardless of position, team, or department, or no matter the task at hand. Our incredible success, which includes passing many first-in-the-nation environmental laws such as a foam food packaging ordinance and leading-edge recycling laws, is a testament to that. We value relationships—with lawmakers, community and business leaders, coalition representatives, our members and activists, and each other.

Established in 1959, staff who work at NRCM today are very much like our founders: smart, dedicated, and determined, with a deep love of Maine. Of our 28 current staff, 9 of us have been at NRCM for more than 15 years—and 3 have been here more than 25! That’s a reflection of the kind of welcoming culture and camaraderie you will find when you join our team.
