The State Legislation and Policy Coordinator in FSMB’s Washington, D.C. office is a policy position responsible for state legislative and regulatory tracking, analysis, and research. The State Legislation and Policy Coordinator will work closely with FSMB’s Legislative Specialist, Director of State Legislation & Policy, and Chief Advocacy Officer – as well as others on FSMB’s Advocacy team – to perform a variety of complex duties requiring a thorough knowledge of state legislative processes and the ability to conduct comprehensive legislative reviews and analyses.
The State Legislation and Policy Coordinator will be responsible for utilizing FSMB’s state-legislative tracking platform to track and analyze legislation across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories that affect state medical and osteopathic boards and the regulation of the practice of medicine. The State Legislation and Policy Coordinator will be responsible for conducting topic-specific research, as well as creating and maintaining state-focused policy resources that are utilized by state medical and osteopathic boards, legislators, and other interested parties. While FSMB’s Advocacy team works in a collaborative environment, the State Legislation and Policy Coordinator will possess the ability to work independently. The State Legislation and Policy Coordinator will also possess the ability to interact professionally with FSMB executive leadership and staff.

Responsibilities
- Track and analyze legislation, regulations, and news reports at the state level.
- Draft correspondence and reports as requested for distribution to FSMB leadership and internal and external parties.
- Research, compile, and analyze data for projects and requests for information.
- Create and maintain state-focused policy resources on FSMB.org.
- Assist in preparing materials and documents for meetings and presentations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Professional Background Required
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of legislative and/or research experience at the state or federal level, or with government affairs organizations, healthcare associations, or trade associations. Demonstrated interest in state government relations and policy preferred.
Skills: Ability to perform research and analyses with minimal supervision; ability to work independently and as part of a team; possess exceptional written and verbal communication and organizational skills; proficient in Microsoft Office; and must be detail-oriented and have good analytical skills.

Highly motivated and organized with an interest in state-level policy and research; ability to interact tactfully with FSMB staff, member boards, and other interested parties; ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities; ability to work under pressure and with frequent interruptions; and ability to handle sensitive information to ensure confidentiality.
