Summary
Voto Latino is a grassroots political organization focused on educating and empowering a new generation of Latino voters. They are seeking an energetic full-time Assistant Press Secretary. This is a writing- and research-intensive role that reports to the VP of Communications, executing a fast-paced media plan, expanding national and regional coverage of Voto Latino, and producing communications materials and research.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with the VP of Communications to execute Voto Latino’s communications strategy and amplify its work.
- Produce outstanding written materials, including press releases, media advisories, talking points, and other materials as needed.
- Synthesize research into appropriate messaging.
- Execute Voto Latino’s earned media strategy, managing media requests, and preparing and disseminating communications tools like press releases, op-eds, public statements, presentations, and pitch ideas.
- Assist with pitching stories to national and regional papers, magazines, long-form media outlets, TV, radio stations, cable news, online outlets, and other influential media.
- Conduct media monitoring.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of professional work in communications and earned media, preferably within grassroots organizations, political campaigns, Capitol Hill, or related areas.
- Experience executing traditional and digital communications strategies.
- Previous experience working with members of the press.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft materials quickly, incorporating strategic communications objectives.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent copy editing, presentation, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively and work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Proficiency in WordPress, Slack, Canva, Mailchimp, and Google Workspace (especially Sheets and Slides).
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, political science, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated commitment to, and awareness of Latino civil rights and/or social justice issues.
Salary & Benefits
- Annual salary between $55,000 and $60,000.
- Competitive benefits, including health insurance and paid vacation leave.
- This is a full-time employment position.
