About the Role:

The Director of Public Relations and Marketing Communications is responsible for the development and execution of an annual strategic and integrated plan that is comprised of public relations, social media, and marketing communications strategies that support the hotel/resort’s business objectives, increase awareness and positive perception of the hotel, leading position in the community, its Food and Beverage outlets, Spa, services and personnel, partnerships, and contribute to driving traffic and revenues.

Overview:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan including PR, social media, and other marketing communications channels and partnerships to support the business objectives of the hotel.
  • Deploy a creative content strategy across multiple owned and earned channels.
  • Manage image and reputation management.
  • Work closely with operational departments on marketing and promotions.

Essential Functions:

  • Proactively identify and develop integrated PR, social media, and content programs that capitalize on unique and newsworthy stories, leveraging unexpected opportunities as they arise.
  • Engage in media relations by actively managing professional relationships with local, regional, and national media and influencers that will benefit the hotel and company as a whole. This includes hosting media visits, pitching targeted story ideas, organizing fam trips and photo shoots, entertaining key media and influencer contacts, responding in a timely way to media inquiries, and supporting social PR.
  • Oversee the hotel’s digital content strategy and manage all property social media channels, creating relevant and engaging content and increasing follower engagement. Ensure the hotel’s web and App presence aligns with the Hotel’s positioning and business objectives.
  • Play a key role in reputation management; act as a strategic communications advisor to management by keeping track of public attitudes, flagging possible consequences of decisions, developing key messages, and managing issues and crisis communications. The role is also involved in the management or oversight of online review responses.
  • Understand the Hotel’s marketplace; stay well-informed of market trends, including evaluating the competition’s marketing communications activity and implement changes as dictated by market requirements. Monitor media coverage and competitor coverage, social media of competitors, as well as online reviews for deeper market insight.
  • Work closely with the F&B and Spa teams to develop promotional and marketing activities and calendars to feed relevant owned channels to stimulate revenue opportunities. Maintain positive working relationships with other departments.
  • Work with the marketing team to manage SEO, digital marketing, photo, and video shoots to ensure messaging and creative alignment across all activities.
  • Press Room: Post press releases, story starters, staff profiles, and updates on the Press Room regularly.
  • Social Media: Leverage social media channels to amplify key messages and activities.
  • Corporate Tools and Agencies: Utilize a full complement of corporate-mandated platforms and software to effectively perform the role and monitor results – including Media and Influencer Databases, media monitoring, UGC capture, etc.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of five to seven years of experience in public relations and/or marketing communications.
  • A university degree in journalism or communications or equivalent experience in public relations, journalism, and/or marketing communications.
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Proven relationships with media, community, and business contacts that have delivered demonstrable results, and the personality to maximize these contacts.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), a strong sense of quality, and a creative mindset.
  • A self-starter that can multitask and prioritize.
  • Proficiency in leveraging social media networks and related monitoring tools.
  • The ability to create newsworthy events, develop story ideas, and follow through with pitch leads and creative digital execution.
