Overview
Mastercard’s Global Government Affairs and Policy team protects Mastercard’s reputational and regulatory interests in markets around the world, working closely with regulatory, privacy and other business colleagues. We engage directly with policymakers and other stakeholders to build goodwill and common understanding. Our aim is to inform regulatory and policymaking in areas of relevance to Mastercard business and ensure that Mastercard’s business strategy is grounded in policy and regulatory reality.
The Multilateral and International Institutions vertical under the Government Affairs & Policy function works globally, partnering across Mastercard to help shape and execute against our strategy. We demonstrate decency and personal accountability to help lead the business forward through hands-on engagement, partnership and strategic value creation.
The Manager for Multilaterals and International Institutions will play a critical role in supporting all aspects of the team’s work on global issues, including managing projects, conducting research, organizing events, maintaining relationships, writing internal and external content, and building partnerships. The ideal candidate must thrive in a fast-paced environment and with a diverse workload.
About the Role
The Manager, Government Affairs and Policy will be a direct report of the Vice President, Multilateral Engagement and International Affairs and will support a comprehensive engagement, research, and advocacy strategy on a wide array of issues in payments and digital policy. This engagement strategy will focus on monitoring multilateral digital policy trends, developing internal/external thought leadership, supporting and managing engagement with relevant stakeholders across academia, think tanks, NGOs, trade associations and across Mastercard. In addition, this role will contribute to the ongoing development of the company’s external advocacy communications.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Vice President for Multilateral Engagement on sustaining strong and active engagement with a wide array of global and regional multilateral institutions.
- Monitor digital policy programs and initiatives by multilateral institutions and identify opportunities for priority engagement.
- Support the development and implementation of a global research agenda focused on digital public infrastructure and the role of private sector, digital and financial inclusion, emerging issues in digital policy, and multilateral cooperation on digital policy.
- Support the planning and execution of Mastercard engagement during key multilateral global and regional events such as the UNGA, World Bank and IMF Spring/Annual Meetings, World Economic Forum, G20/B20, ASEAN, APEC, GCC, etc.
- Work with the Mastercard business and regional teams to monitor and assess market conditions and interactions within global multilaterals and regional cooperation frameworks.
- Project manage cross-functional activities aimed at bringing Mastercard products and services teams and subject matter experts to bear on multilateral engagement.
- Produce internal and external intelligence reports highlighting key issues, Mastercard engagement and outcomes within the multilateral community.
- Develop and drive the team’s external communications across multiple digital platforms.
- Support development of briefing materials, concept notes and messaging for Mastercard subject matter experts and executives.
- Assist in writing and editing of key content, including blogs, articles, presentations, and infographics.
- Create engaging social media content that can help Mastercard reach influential audiences, such as policymakers, reporters, grassroots supporters and other online stakeholders.
Skills/Experience
- Experience successfully supporting and executing policy advocacy programs.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complicated business, economic, and policy issues.
- Demonstrated experience in public policy, economics and technology issues.
- Demonstrated interest in current events, and the role of the private sector in the digital economy.
- Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to synthesize multiple internal and external inputs and data to produce compelling analysis of how Mastercard is driving key issues with and through multilateral partnerships.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills and attention to detail.
- Prior work experience in international organizations, think tanks, research institutions, and/or public sector.
- Solid understanding of the multilateral institutions landscape and geopolitical developments and implications.
- Creative thinker possessing high level of comfort with fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Demonstrated project management, organization, and execution skills with strong ability to manage deliverables and deadlines for multiple initiatives and teams.
- Proven skills in relationship management and managing multiple stakeholders with professionalism and maturity.
- Experience operating in matrixed organizational structure is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly, respond to urgent, unanticipated requests, and manage ambiguity.
- Experience working in the public, private, or not-for-profit sectors, ideally with a focus on foreign policy, international trade, or international business issues.
- Outstanding professional poise and maturity when interacting with internal or external colleagues at every level, all of the time.
Salary Range
$151,000 – $241,000

Compensation and Benefits
In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
