We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief of Staff, Director of Legislative Affairs to join our team and drive growth and expansion for our business.

As a Chief of Staff, Director of Legislative Affairs at Mutualink, you will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of the company’s government affairs and communications strategy throughout the United States to positively position the company with key stakeholders. This role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with political, policy and business stakeholders at the national, federal, state, and local levels, and on overseeing all communications involving the company.

This position works with the goal of positioning Mutualink as a legislative and regulatory leader on policy issues of interest to the company’s business operations and ensuring a broad and diverse communications strategy to build corporate visibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development and Execution of Government Affairs Strategy: Implement legislative and regulatory agendas and projects, and engage with political stakeholders, including representatives at federal, state, and local levels, to communicate Mutualink’s perspectives on relevant policy issues.
  • Manage Outside Consultants: Maintain close collaboration with state-specific consultants, including oversight of legislative agendas.
  • Assist in expansion of government relations strategies in additional states and locations. Serve as designated lobbyist when necessary.
  • Policy Analysis and Stakeholder Engagement: Provide analysis and recommendations on government policies affecting Mutualink’s operations. Develop and maintain a detailed map of key policy stakeholders, including government officials, industry influencers, and key opinion leaders. Design and implement tailored engagement strategies to effectively communicate Mutualink’s positions and priorities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including government representatives, advisors, and committee members, to influence policy development in areas critical to Mutualink.
  • Proactive Issue Management: Anticipate and identify potential policy or regulatory issues that could impact the business. Develop and implement proactive strategies to mitigate risks and manage emerging issues.
  • Work closely with relevant internal teams to ensure integration of government affairs activities into broader business strategies and operations. Educate and brief internal stakeholders on key government affairs issues, ensuring they are informed and prepared for potential impacts on business operations.
  • Reporting: Develop and track metrics to measure the success of government affairs initiatives, demonstrating the impact and value of government affairs activities. Regularly update internal leadership on government affairs activities, progress, and emerging policy issues.
  • Event Facilitation: Collaborate with external stakeholders to identify areas of mutual interest and support the company with events and meetings to further Mutualink’s government affairs objectives.
  • Knowledge Building: Maintain and internally distribute expertise in relevant policy areas by attending political events, conferences, and other industry-related activities.
  • Community, Business and Trade Association Representation: Represent Mutualink on relevant Government Affairs committees within industry trade associations, ensuring alignment with the company’s policy goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and board of directors to develop and implement a communications strategy for the company that builds and maintains a positive corporate brand.
  • Act as corporate spokesperson with media and other groups as assigned. Manage and assist communications staff with composition and distribution of media releases.
  • Develop proactive stories and media content.
  • Develop effective messaging and consistent talking points.
  • Maintain an awareness of company risks and threats and respond to crises both anticipated and unforeseen.
  • Ensure all company materials have consistent and positive messaging and branding.
  • Conduct quality control on all communications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, and communications.
  • Master’s degree, or bachelor’s degree and equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Proven experience in government advocacy, public affairs, and lobbying, with a solid understanding of government legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Proven experience with media engagement, public speaking, and crisis communication management.
  • Collaboration / Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a matrixed company and collaborate across functions.
  • Results-Oriented: Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results in a timely manner.
  • Strategic Thinking / Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex policy issues and develop strategic responses that align with business objectives.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of industry trends and how to position company as subject matter experts.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Integrity: Maintain high ethical standards and exemplary reputation of personal and business integrity including honesty, responsiveness, and respect.

Compensation

This position offers a fixed annual base salary. Promotional and advancement opportunities are available to reach top pay. For informational purposes only, the salary range for a Chief of Staff, Director of Legislative Affairs begins at $140,000.00, with a mid-range of $162,000.00 and a top pay of $185,000.00. This pay range can be modified at any time at the sole discretion of the company and does not include variable, performance-based compensation which can be applicable.
