Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont is looking for a Legislative & Government Relations Associate to join our Client Relations and External Affairs team. Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $75,000–$95,000. Additional compensation opportunities and incentives will be detailed during the interview process.

Please note that the range listed above is our good faith estimate of the hiring range for this role. If you are hired at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, experience, and internal equity across the current team.

Location

Blue Cross has transitioned to a hybrid workplace. It is expected that the qualified candidate will be in the Berlin, VT office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Flexible scheduling is expected, particularly during legislative sessions in Montpelier and on other occasions as necessary.

Legislative & Government Relations Associate Responsibilities

Support the Director in the development, coordination, execution, and evaluation of government relations strategies for the organization.

Develop and maintain effective relations with state regulators, legislators, and other government and public stakeholders.

Exercise considerable flexibility and independent judgment in proposing solutions to challenges based on the strategic goals and objectives of the organization, as well as the strategic plans of the department.

Represent Blue Cross VT, advocating for legislative and regulatory changes which support the organization’s goals and values.

Conduct research and analysis on relevant legislation, regulations, and policy issues.

Monitor and report on political, legislative, and regulatory developments to enable timely development of strategy and program involvement.

Register as a lobbyist with the state of Vermont representing Blue Cross VT and maintain up-to-date filing requirements and deadlines.

Attend external meetings at locations around the state with regulators, special committees, and stakeholders, including times outside of regular work hours.

Legislative & Government Relations Associate Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in government, political science, public policy, English, or a related field is required.

Strong background, understanding, and relationships with Vermont media and state government is essential.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and leadership.

Minimum of 5 years of work experience in fields relating to these areas.
