Position Summary:
SEEC Institute is looking for an External Affairs Associate to join our small, dedicated team and help drive our communications and convenings to the next level. Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, this role sits at the heart of our work – shaping our voice, supporting high-impact events, and helping bring together some of the most exciting leaders in the climate and clean energy space.

It’s a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast paced environment. You’ll write, build, organize, troubleshoot, and collaborate across the organization. You’ll work closely with partners and congressional stakeholders, gaining exposure to a wide range of climate and communications work while contributing meaningfully to a growing, mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities:

Communications and Content

Help develop and implement a cohesive communications strategy

Develop communications toolkits for events and programs

Contribute to the design and maintenance of our website

Draft and schedule newsletters, social media posts, and emails

Create and maintain a communications calendar, ensuring coordination and timely execution across teams

Create and manage assets, templates, graphics, and language

Track analytics and engagement to inform communications planning

Support development of narrative materials, explainers, partner spotlights, and other evergreen content

Partnerships, Media, and External Engagement

Build and maintain targeted media lists and track media engagement

Assist with outreach to reporters, editors, and external collaborators around major initiatives and events

Develop creative strategies regarding new media and content creators

Support partnerships through coordinated cross-promotion, messaging alignment, and shared content

Convenings

Assist with logistical components of major events, including venue coordination, vendor communication, and technical needs

Coordinate speakers, participants, materials preparation, and on-site execution

Ensure events generate public-facing outputs such as photos, video clips, interviews, etc.

Collaborate with program and development staff to ensure event communications are accurate and strategic

Support internal systems and infrastructure needed to deliver smooth, high-quality convenings as part of a small, agile team

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Media Studies, Marketing, Political Science, Environmental Studies, etc.), Master’s degree a plus

Experience: 2+ years of full time experience in communications, external affairs, or a related field; nonprofit or environment related communications experience a plus

Skills:

Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple workflows and deadlines

Experience with digital communications tools (Squarespace, CRM, email design, Adobe)

Experience with social media communications, previous experience working with content creators a plus

Graphic design and/or web design skills a plus

Comfortable engaging with partners, media contacts, and congressional stakeholders with professionalism and sound judgment

Ability to work collaboratively within a small, fast-paced team
