Job Description
SUMMARY

Integral part of the Government Affairs lobbying team working to represent the views of NCBA’s membership on policy issues that impact the cattle business. This position will have a core set of issues in which they will hold detailed expertise but will also be able to discuss all issues NCBA is working on. The Sr. Director will be responsible for maintaining and developing professional relationships with industry stakeholders, Members of Congress, Congressional staff, and Federal agency staff. This position will also serve as an authoritative voice on the economics of the US cattle industry with producers, partners, and the media. This position will be focused on cattle marketing issues and will work closely with the CME Group, CFTC, USDA, and other trade associations and entities which have an impact on cattle markets. The Sr. Director serves as the staff liaison for NCBA’s Live Cattle Marketing Committee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

Meet with Congressional staff to discuss the policy priorities for NCBA.
Assist the rest of the lobby staff in executing strategies that further advance the policy and legislative priorities of the cattle business.
Evaluate and analyze legislation and regulations to determine the impact on cattle producers.
Work with state affiliates and members to address any policy questions.
Create reports, economic analysis, letters, statements, testimony and other correspondence related to policy.
Attend legislative and coalition meetings, congressional hearings and other events.
Prepare for annual, summer and legislative meetings by arranging speakers, developing meeting agendas and coordinating committee activities with association leadership. Serve as the Staff Director for NCBA’s Cattle Marketing Committee.
Attend PAC meetings and fundraising events
Serve as a liaison to the CME Group, Futures Industry Association, National Grain and Feed Association, Commodity Markets Council, and other trade groups that work on futures issues.
Work closely with relevant USDA agencies and offices as well as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to address regulatory concerns.
Coordinate with NCBA’s Livestock Marketing Council and the Livestock Marketing Association to work on issues regarding livestock markets and overall cattle marketing issues.
Other job duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION – Advance degree in a relevant economic discipline.
EXPERIENCE – Minimum 2 years legislative or related experience required. Background or experience in cattle marketing is preferred.
EQUIVALENCY – None
CERTIFICATION(S) – None
SKILLS – Excellent writing, communication and people skills are required. Applicants must have a strong knowledge and understanding of the legislative process and must demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
