Our panel of experts will walk us through who will be taking office in January, who’s headed toward the exit, what’s ahead for the “lame duck” Congress, and more. We will also be discussing state-level results and the new state legislative landscape across the country. Join us to learn what it means for your government relations work as 2027 approaches.

Understanding the New Landscape
Exactly what happened one week ago? The first part of the workshop will dive deep into Congressional, gubernatorial and other key election results, highlighting changes in majorities, what to expect in the “lame duck,” and what the election results could portend for the political environment heading into 2027.
In this session we will:
- Examine the party breakdown of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, including what a change—or continuation—of party control means for Congressional priorities
- Highlight the new Members of Congress government relations professionals should pay attention to, including Members gaining influence or assuming new leadership responsibilities
- Walk through the results of key 2026 gubernatorial races, assessing what new or returning governors could mean for state policy priorities, political dynamics and government relations strategies in 2027
- Discuss changes in the control and composition of key state legislatures around the country

Turning Election Results into Government Relations Strategy
Now that the elections are behind us, how should you translate the results to shape your government relations strategy for the lame duck and beyond? Our expert speakers will walk us through different considerations before answering your questions.
In this session, we will discuss:
- Identifying potential new Congressional champions, opponents and external coalition partners
- Building relationships with incoming Members and staff, both in Congress and state capitals
- Adapting your government relations strategies to new Congressional leadership and committee structures
- Preparing for opportunities and risks created by divided or unified government
