What's in the Swamp?

What’s most wrong with Washington? According to most Americans, it’s politicians. The latest Public Affairs Pulse Survey polled more than 2,000 Americans on the most serious problems with Washington. The top four issues cited all pertain to inside-the-beltway politicians, including being more concerned about re-election than good decision-making, too much partisanship and using influence to make money for themselves. And this concern about corruption and getting re-elected are largely bipartisan. More than 70% of both Democrats and Republicans say it’s a major problem that re-election reigns supreme on officials’ agendas.

[vc_toggle title=”Read More”]The Pulse Survey also uncovers how the public feels about President Trump’s tweets, the nation’s influence on a global scale, which industries are most trusted and much more. Key findings include:

  • Only 15% of the public read the president’s tweets very often, either via Twitter or the news media. This was the same percentage reported in last year’s poll.
  • Friends and family are still the most trusted source of political news at 67%, down slightly from 71% in 2018.
  • Thirty-eight percent of Americans say the U.S. government still has a great deal of economic influence on a global scale, but 35% believe that influence is decreasing and only 27% say it is increasing.
  • Seven out of 10 Americans are supportive of self-funded campaigns or political dollars raised from individual citizens. The next most acceptable form of campaign funding is political action committees, which are favored by 51% and opposed by only 22%.

Read the full findings here. We encourage you to share these results with your key audiences, such as senior management or PAC members.[/vc_toggle]

Out and About with the Council

We’ve been busy! Here’s what Council members have been up to this fall.

Fun on K Street. Council headquarters is great for rooftop mingling, at least according to the attendees at our fall PIN Network happy hour.

Taking over The Hill. D.C. Study Tour participants head to Capitol Hill to get the inside scoop on how public affairs works in the city where it all started.

Hanging out in Old Town Alexandria. SGR pros come together to talk trends and share ideas at the State and Local Government Relations Conference.
