The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a new opportunity for an **AVP – Federal Regulatory Affairs** in our Federal Affairs Department. This position will contribute to the execution of NAMIC’s strategies by representing NAMIC before federal officials on issues affecting p/c insurance companies and advocating legislative and regulatory positions developed by NAMIC in all appropriate forums. This position is located in the NAMIC Washington, DC office.
**Essential functions of the position include:**
– **Subject Matter Expertise** — Acts as a subject matter expert on regulatory and legislative developments affecting the p/c insurance industry, providing strategic analysis and reporting for NAMIC publications.
– **Federal & Political Affairs Collaboration** — Serves as an integral part of the NAMIC Federal & Political Affairs Team to ensure comprehensive issue coverage in conjunction with all advocates.
– **Testimony & Comment Management** — In coordination with the VP – Federal Counsel, manages NAMIC testimony and comment letters regarding federal regulatory, executive, and legislative proposals.
– **Regulatory Agency Relations** — Establishes and maintains positive relationships with federal regulatory agencies and advisory bodies including FIO, FACI, the Federal Reserve Board, CFPB, SEC, FTC, CFTC, NHTSA, DOL, and FEMA.
– **Stakeholder Communication** — Maintains regular communications with member companies, insurance trade representatives, and other relevant stakeholder groups.
– **Policy Coordination** — Works with the NAMIC Public Policy Team to enhance coordination between SMEs and Federal & Political Affairs advocates.
– **Issue Communication** — Communicates effectively on issues through oral presentations, written articles, web content, or other relevant media.
– **Advocacy Coverage** — Provides direct advocacy coverage for legislative and regulatory entities as needed.
– **Relationship Building** — Builds and maintains positive work relationships with management, staff members, and external contacts.
– **Attendance & Reliability** — Arrives to work on time and maintains a positive attendance record.
– **Additional Duties** — Performs any other duties and projects as assigned.
**Qualifications include:**
– **Public Policy Experience** — Minimum 5 years’ experience working on substantive public policy issues within a state or federal legislature or agency, trade association, or company.
– **Regulatory Process Knowledge** — Experience with the federal regulatory process and the Administrative Procedures Act required.
– **Insurance Industry Familiarity** — Familiarity with the property/casualty insurance industry preferred.
– **Advocacy Background** — Prior experience in advocacy before government organizations preferred.
– **Educational Requirements** — Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; Juris Doctor preferred.
– **Travel Flexibility** — Flexibility to travel on an “as needed” basis, up to about 20 percent of the time.
– **Background Requirements** — Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and must possess an acceptable MVR.
