**Reports to:** Senior Director of Marketing and Communications
**Works Closely With:** All internal stakeholders
**Classification:** Full‑time, Non‑Exempt
**Hourly Rate Range:** $60,000–$65,000/year

**Designation:** Remote, Eastern Time Zone. Position involves work‑related travel in the United States two times per year, including the Annual Conference in March and an All‑Staff retreat in July.

Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, Wisconsin, Texas.

## Job Description

The Communications Manager leads the development, execution, and continuous refinement of a comprehensive communications strategy for the American Montessori Society. This role is essential to advancing AMS’ mission and vision.

The Communications Manager ensures that AMS is communicating externally with clarity, purpose, and accuracy. This role is the unifying voice for all AMS communications channels, maintaining awareness of every part of the organization.

## Job Details

– Create and manage the overall editorial calendar comprising emails, social media, blog, podcast, and other communication channels as needed.
– Serve as the unifying voice for AMS’ external products.
– Collaborate with internal teams, especially Marketing and Communications colleagues, to ensure consistency and alignment of messaging across all channels.
– Liaise with external communications contractors to coordinate content and communications alignment for Montessori Life Magazine, the *Educating the Human Potential* podcast, Montessori Life blog contributors, and others as necessary.
– Assist with metrics reporting in collaboration with Senior Leadership and maintain a consistent, predictable communication cadence to the AMS community.
– Curate day‑to‑day social media calendar and content, managing any external contract needs for graphic design or paid media.
– Help subject matter experts shape engaging and informative content that effectively communicates the organization’s mission, initiatives, and achievements to diverse audiences.
– Assist in the development and distribution of educational reports, whitepapers, and other publications that contribute to the organization’s publishing goals.
– Demonstrate exceptional skills in writing, reviewing content/tone, communication, and project management.
– Work collaboratively across the organization to develop efficient and helpful processes to update, scale, and leverage all communication pieces.
– In partnership with marketing and subject matter experts, develop strategic messaging houses and outcome‑based frameworks for critical events and initiatives.
– Oversee and approve the production of content, presentations, campaigns, and institutional materials for internal and external communications needs.
– Develop and execute successful short‑ and long‑term media and social media outreach strategies.
– Develop and oversee a diverse range of branding programs to meet changing needs and strengthen relationships with the community and partner organizations.

## Qualifications

– 5+ years of experience in Marketing, Communications, or similar disciplines.
– Proven experience leading content collaboration, communications campaigns, and messaging projects.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience writing for employee and business audiences.
– Proven management of an editorial calendar with multiple stakeholders and competing channels.
– Demonstrated management of social media content, including writing and content strategy.
– Demonstrated experience developing and executing large‑scale communications programs.
– Strong project management skills with the ability to drive initiatives from concept to implementation.
– Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively across teams and departments.
– Strategic mindset with the capacity to align technology initiatives with broader business goals.
– Demonstrated ability to stay abreast of communications technology trends and best practices.
