Position Details

  • Location: Arlington, VA (ASTRO Headquarters)
  • Work Environment: Hybrid, with immediate telework opportunities up to 3x/week

Responsibilities

Lobbying:

  • Educate members of Congress, staff, and federal agency officials on ASTRO/radiation oncology issues
  • Drive ASTRO member participation in legislative and regulatory processes
  • Support ASTRO’s Political Action Committee (ASTRO PAC)
  • Ensure compliance with federal lobbying requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

Lobbying:

  • Influence legislative and executive branch officials
  • Develop effective briefing materials and letters
  • Attend relevant hearings and coalition meetings
  • Analyze legislative/regulatory proposals’ impact on radiation oncology

Grassroots Engagement:

  • Assist with organizing ASTRO’s annual Fly-In/Lobby Day
  • Engage ASTRO members in grassroots advocacy
  • Utilize ASTRO Action Alerts for member response to critical proposals
  • Organize meetings with members of Congress in their state/district

ASTRO PAC:

  • Develop and execute ASTRO PAC strategic plan
  • Increase fundraising efforts
  • Disburse funds strategically and oversee compliance reporting

Member Support/Services:

  • Provide support for Government Relations Committee and Congressional Relations Subcommittee
  • Respond to member inquiries regarding legislative/regulatory proposals
  • Produce written and oral content for ASTRO’s communications platforms

Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in congressional, federal agency, or association roles
  • Experience in healthcare policy preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of Legislative and Executive branch operations
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Results-oriented with strong research and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Working Conditions

  • Open office environment in Arlington, VA with telecommuting opportunities
  • Minimal travel required outside of DC area (5-10% of the time)
