Role Summary The Director, Government Affairs represents Alaska Air Group (AAG) on federal-level government affairs matters in Washington, D.C. and manages the company’s federal Political Action Committee. This role tracks federal policy issues of importance to AAG and advocates AAG positions on such issues to Congress and key Administration officials. The role requires strong Capitol Hill relationships and a background well-suited to relationship-building with Administration officials dealing in aviation issues.
Scope & Complexity
- This position supports federal government affairs issues and activities for Alaska Air Group (AAG) and its subsidiaries.
- Represents AAG on government affairs matters in Washington, D.C.
- Develops the company’s federal legislative and regulatory objectives and the strategies to achieve them and takes the lead role in execution of them.
- Tracks legislation and regulations that may have an impact on the company and reports regularly on such matters to the Managing Director, Government Affairs and other key company leaders.
- Advocates company positions on legislative and regulatory matters to key officials and staff.
- Develops and maintains strong professional relationships with the following:
- Congressional offices, with a focus on the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii and California,
- Aviation committee staff in the House and Senate,
- Key Administration officials.
- Coordinates meetings in Washington, D.C. between company representatives and government leaders.
- Provides oversight and direction for AAG’s government affairs contractors in Washington, D.C.
- Represents AAG with industry trade groups.
- Manages the AAG’s federal Political Action Committee, including attendance at political fundraisers in Washington, D.C.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience or 6 years of Capitol Hill experience.
- Strong knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processes.
- A background well suited to relationship-building with key administration staff.
- Strategic planning experience, with the ability to build and execute a plan to support AAG’s government affairs objectives.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well independently.
- Strong outside consultant management ability; highly professional and self-reliant.
- Ability to build trust with internal customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with aviation policy issues.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree is required.
- A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
