Overview: The Director of Government Affairs is responsible for supporting the association’s existing government affairs program and expanding the program to benefit HAI’s membership.


Essential Functions of the Position Include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Monitor, analyze, and track state and federal legislation.
  • Support HAI’s government relations goals by lobbying at federal, state, and local level.
  • Build coalitions and expand relationships with key decision-makers, policymakers, and federal, state and local elected officials.
  • Participate in the development of policy positions, strategies, and execution of tactics to influence state and federal legislative activity.
  • Inform, coordinate and mobilize member company’s participation in grassroots advocacy efforts to achieve industry’s government relations goals.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Government Affairs in support of any requests or inquiries from HAI’s Committees.
  • Develop and coordinate the materials needed to effectively advocate HAI’s legislative positions.
  • Contribute content to HAI’s e-newsletter, ROTOR Daily.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Association to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies and member service programs.

Desired Qualifications for the Position Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum five to seven years of federal and/or state legislative, regulatory, lobbying or political experience
  • Previous experience managing programs for federal and/or state initiatives. Helicopter and aviation-related issues a plus (desired but not required)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with prior experience in creating and delivering public presentations
  • Highly motivated, able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
