The Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA) is accepting applications for a full-time Director of Government Affairs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to; developing strategies to strengthen public awareness of IRHA’s mission, cultivating and strengthening relationships with relevant stakeholders and elected officials, providing analysis of state and federal legislation and regulation to assess the impact on rural healthcare delivery, collaborating with IRHA’s contracted Lobbying Agency and serve as the lead registered lobbyist for IRHA.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategy to strengthen the awareness of IRHA’s mission and issues important to rural Hoosiers across various political platforms.
  • Represent IRHA at board meetings, national meetings, conferences, and other organizational meetings, when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, IRHA team members, and the Policy & Legislative Committee to plan and execute IRHA’s Annual Public Policy Agenda and legislative priorities.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships including, but not limited to elected officials, their staff, and state offices; IRHA membership including InSRHN members, organizational members, and individual members; state and national advocacy organizations; and a variety of other relevant stakeholders.
  • Attend state administration meetings when appropriate and help direct public comments on issues of importance to rural Hoosiers.
  • Provide analysis of state and federal legislation and regulation to assess the impact on rural healthcare delivery. The Director will effectively share these reports with stakeholders through presentations, individual meetings, and IRHA publications.
  • Guide and develop effective strategies and tactics for IRHA’s leadership team in response to time-sensitive political and public policy issues.
  • Collaborate with contracted IRHA Lobbying Agency and serve as the lead registered lobbyist for IRHA and will work in coordination with the Chief Executive Officer to represent IRHA at the state house and on various statewide committees and task forces.
  • Accurately track, log, and monitor lobbying activity for appropriate reporting to regulatory agencies
  • Significant travel may be required
  • Assist with additional functions at IRHA, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in health initiatives
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Public Policy
  • Leadership experience preferred, but not required
  • Resident of Indiana
