Job Summary
MFAN seeks a strategic, mission-focused Director of Government Relations to lead the organization’s policy and advocacy efforts. The Director will serve as the primary liaison to legislative and government stakeholders, championing policy priorities that reflect the real needs of military families. This individual will shape and execute MFAN’s government relations strategy, working in close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to elevate the voice of the military community in federal policymaking.
Position Type / Hours of Work
Full-Time, Exempt Position
Hours: Standard hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Monday–Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET on Fridays, unless otherwise approved by department lead. There will be occasions when extended hours are required due to events, travel, meetings, or other requirements.
Location: Hybrid. Must reside in the National Capital Region. As this is a hybrid position, candidates are expected to have a dedicated workspace and access to high-speed internet.
Travel: Candidate will be expected to attend in-person meetings in the National Capital Region frequently. We anticipate occasional travel outside of the region for conferences and events.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive government relations strategy aligned with MFAN’s mission and priorities.
Serve as MFAN’s primary representative to Congress, federal agencies, and relevant coalitions.
Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative and regulatory developments that impact military families.
Build and maintain strong, bipartisan relationships with key policymakers, staffers, and partner organizations.
Draft policy briefs, testimonies, and advocacy materials rooted in MFAN’s research and community insights.
Organize and lead briefings, meetings, and events to educate stakeholders and amplify military family voices.
Collaborate with MFAN’s research and communications teams to ensure policy recommendations are evidence-based and clearly communicated.
