The Opportunity

Director of Public Affairs

We are seeking a Director of Public Affairs to play a critical role in shaping and enhancing Flock Safety’s reputation as a thought leader and product innovator in the safety technology space. Reporting to the Senior Director of Government Affairs, this role will focus on building credibility with key stakeholders across government, nonprofits, and the private sector to elevate Flock’s profile and advance our public policy priorities through strategic partnerships, conferences, media opportunities, and advocacy initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and skilled communicator who thrives in complex landscapes, excels at relationship-building, and is passionate about amplifying Flock Safety’s mission and impact.


Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy

  • Identify, engage, and maintain relationships with associations, civic groups, think tanks, corporate allies, and government entities at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Cultivate partnerships with organizations aligned with Flock’s mission to support advocacy efforts and help advance our mission to shape a safer future.
  • Leverage national partnerships to drive local advocacy efforts, such as engaging grassroots/grasstops organizations to support legislative initiatives.
  • Activate third-party voices to advocate for Flock’s mission during strategic moments.

Strategic Collaboration and Leadership

  • Lead a team of Public Affairs Managers, engaging with communities, local government partners, and third parties across the country.
  • Partner with the Government Relations (GR) team to align partnership and innovative complex campaign strategies with legislative objectives and municipal priorities.
  • Work closely with commercial and public sector teams to identify opportunities for partnerships and external affairs to support market expansion goals, with an early emphasis on major municipalities.

Thought Leadership

  • Partner closely with our Communications team to develop and execute earned media opportunities, including event coverage (e.g., legislative hearings, conference keynotes) and thought leadership pieces such as op-eds in local outlets and trade publications.
  • Represent Flock Safety at conferences, roundtables, and private events to enhance the company’s credibility and voice in public safety and technology innovation.

Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Collaborate with GR, communications, sales, and marketing teams to ensure cohesive messaging and integration of partnership activities.
  • Align public affairs initiatives with broader organizational goals to maximize impact and visibility.

First 90 Days

First 30 Days

  • Review current sales processes, ride along with current reps, assess the team’s strengths and opportunities, and achieve “cannot fail” pipeline and revenue targets.

First 60 Days

  • Continue to achieve “cannot fail” targets while getting more involved in your team’s top deals. Develop the talent profile and hire for your team, and help new hires succeed with their own development plans.

90 Days & Beyond

  • Fill open headcount for your team, and complete planning items like OKRs, hiring plans, etc. for the next quarter. You should be the DRI on multiple company-level OKRs and have successfully delivered company-level projects.

The Skill Set

  • Extensive experience as an organizer and political strategist, with a proven track record in national political campaigns, agency, or corporate organizing experience.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders and serve as a trusted representative for Flock.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with campaign management and public speaking.
  • Proven success in people, team, and consultant management.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align initiatives with organizational priorities and navigate complex landscapes.
  • Track record of representing organizations at high-profile events and fostering credibility through thought leadership.
  • Experience with public procurement or partnering directly with the government.

  3. Technical Assessment – Skill-based evaluation relevant to the role.
  4. Panel Interview – Meet team members and cross-functional partners.
  5. Executive Review – Final interview with leadership.
