The Role:

We are growing and looking for a talented and experienced External Affairs Director to join our team. If you have the experience and can-do attitude, we invite you to help us make the world greener and to take part in our hyper-growth process. The position will be based in our Arlington, Virginia headquarters.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a relationship liaison with private sector partners, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and relevant academic and government stakeholders to bolster the company’s reputation and presence in the communities where we have operations.
  • Develop and implement effective government engagement strategies to support community development initiatives and secure necessary approvals for projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key government officials and stakeholders to influence policy decisions beneficial to the company.
  • Monitor and assess legislative and regulatory developments that could impact the company’s operations and provide timely updates to internal teams.
  • Work collaboratively with the development team to support local zoning efforts and help identify local resources and stakeholders instrumental to securing zoning approvals.
  • Manage PR and marketing activities and strategy through consultants, identify and execute PR opportunities.
  • Manage community program planning and implementation such as scholarships, community funds, events throughout the project lifetime, etc.
  • Track stakeholder engagement plans, communication plans, and community economic development initiatives and partnerships.
  • Manage third-party consultants to create and foster long-term relationships with government agencies and decision-makers across active and prospective states.
  • Identify potential programs and initiatives via conversations with industry stakeholders and monitor successful programs from other states and countries.
  • Track, analyze, and communicate internally important legislative changes on the state level.
  • Organize and execute tours of facilities/sites for policymakers, local partners, non-profit partners.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and make recommendations to internal teams accordingly.
  • Manage development team community budget and determine where funds are most needed.
  • Assist in event planning for both internal and external opportunities.
  • Manage sponsorship and conference opportunities and associated follow-up items.
  • Support internal team members on messaging and outreach.
