Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.

Emergency Response

Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Advocates before members of Congress and executive branch officials to garner support for policies and legislation that align with DTE Energy’s interests and strategic business objectives. These objectives include federal energy policies impacting DTE Energy’s electric and gas utilities in Michigan as well as its investments in gas midstream assets and other power and industrial assets across the country.

Key Accountabilities

  • Meets formally and informally with members of Congress, legislative staff, and other federal government officials to present DTE Energy’s position concerning various public policy matters. Typical agency interactions include U.S. EPA, FERC, DOE.
  • Identifies federal policy proposals that may influence DTE Energy operations, plans, or its strategic and business objectives; refers information to appropriate personnel for further analysis; assists in developing company positions and lobbying strategies.
  • Represents DTE Energy at political events, legislative hearings, and business and social events.
  • Develops a network of reliable federal-level contacts and decision-influencers.
  • Proactively seeks federal procurement opportunities.
  • Builds and effectively participates in coalitions with like-minded stakeholders to achieve favorable policy outcomes.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Eight years of experience in federal or state government relations or as a high-ranking Congressional staff member or Executive Branch staff.

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Degree in Political Science, Business, Engineering, or the sciences.
  • Knowledge of technical and financial aspects of regulated electric and gas utilities and non-utility/non-regulated ventures.

Other Requirements

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of federal legislative, regulatory, governmental, and political processes and operations.
  • Must possess strong negotiating skills and demonstrated ability to handle adversarial situations diplomatically.
  • Must possess high ethical standards and regard for the need to preserve the reputation of the enterprise in external interactions.
