### Job Title
The Arc Montgomery County has an exciting newly created position for a Government Affairs Specialist.
### Job Summary
The Government Affairs Specialist is the lead for all legislative-related activities for The Arc Montgomery County. This role is responsible for having current and accurate knowledge of open and passed legislation at the state, county, federal, and municipal levels related to the intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) community, The Arc Montgomery County’s programs, and nonprofits.
### Responsibilities
– Supervise the Government Affairs Aides and STAND Together Chapter Liaison(s).
– Work closely with the Senior Manager for Communications to communicate advocacy needs and efforts with employees and stakeholders.
– Seek testimony and support or opposition of legislation as needed.
– Communicate through phone, email, and in person.
– Early mornings, weekends, and evenings may be required.
### Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant professional experience; or associate degree plus four years of relevant professional experience; or high school diploma or equivalence plus six years of relevant professional experience.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
– Willingness to learn new skills.
– Occasionally flexible schedule (related to events and project deadlines).
### Salary
$45,230 – $47,520 depending on education and experience.
