Government Relations Manager

The Manager of Government Relations will play an integral role in supporting the VP of Government Affairs & Codes in the implementation and execution of advocacy, government relations strategies, and legislation issues that impact PHTA members at the national, state and local levels. The Manager of Government Relations will work collaboratively with staff, members and volunteers on various tasks and efforts.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying, monitoring and proactively addressing legislative and regulatory issues at the federal, state and local level that impact the swimming pool, spa and hot tub industry.
  • Analyzing and development of legislation and regulatory initiatives.
  • Assists with outreach and coordination to relevant membership councils, committees, and coalitions to advise them of important government relation matters.
  • Provides reports for weekly newsletter and alerts to all membership.
  • Reaching out to government staff and elected officials.
  • Conducts research.
  • Assists with the coordination of a grassroots advocacy network.
  • Assisting with code and standard adoption and interpretation questions at the state and local levels; including, but not limited to updating list of current adoptions, determining opportunities for additional adoptions; and providing a clearinghouse for all interpretation questions that can also become future code and standard proposals.
  • Schedule conference calls, meetings and travel arrangements.
  • Other duties assigned


Qualification, Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree desirable
  • 2 years working in the government relations arena
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to articulate complex issues and messages to membership
  • Self-motivated and ability to solve problems
  • Can work both independently and in a team
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Some travel required
