Manager, Impact and Engagement, Community Engagement
The Manager, Impact and Engagement, Community Engagement is a leader in volunteer and partner engagement to support United Way’s community goals and is responsible for managing and implementing strategies that mobilize people to give, advocate, and volunteer.
What You’ll Do:
- Manages the engagement of individuals (both in and out of the workplace) and community partners in opportunities to support United Way’s community goals. This position will design, implement, and evaluate innovative individual and corporate engagement services and experiences for year-round strategic engagement, including those related to affinity groups, ad hoc corporate engagement projects, community outreach, and seasonal events and initiatives, such as Year of Caring volunteer projects and in-kind goods distribution (including kits).
- Acts as the internal point of contact to work cross-functionally with Resource Development to ensure alignment of engagement activities to community need.
- Manage relationships with community partners and leaders to ensure year-round progress toward impact goals.
- Manages implementation of episodic group volunteer experiences that support community goals and the goals of corporate partners, such as fundraising event volunteers.
- Recruits, trains, and manages community volunteers to further United Way’s community impact goals. This includes volunteers participating in all impact and engagement processes and the Ambassador program.
- Leads special projects as assigned (such as community outreach projects, etc.).
- Raises financial and material resources and recruits/supports volunteers in implementing United Way engagement opportunities. Track and report progress toward alternate revenue goals.
- Serves on cross-functional teams as assigned.
- Participates in organizational support of customer relationship management (CRM) database systems and develops/maintains volunteer data for projects. Includes sharing data to inform development of engagement strategies.
About You:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, social impact design, development, marketing, social work, public policy, or related field preferred and/or three to five years of related experience.
- Minimum three years experience in volunteer management, social impact design, corporate community relations, project management, community organizing, or other related areas required; three years’ experience preferred.
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Technology skills including expertise with Microsoft Office and database management; willingness to learn new applications and identify innovative ways for technology to support organizational objectives.
- Familiarity with asset-based and/or social impact design approaches to community development, volunteerism, corporate philanthropy, and tutoring/mentoring.
- Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate, and to create systems and processes.
- Requires exceptional knowledge, skills and abilities in data analysis and insight generation, translation of complex issues into actionable efforts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions.
- Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally.
- Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities, even while at times under pressure.
- Solid relationship management skills enhancing internal organizational relations and external community interactions.

- Understands the roles and contributions of all sectors of the community and can mobilize resources (financial and human) through meaningful engagement.
