DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Legislative Affairs Associate

POSITION SUMMARY: The legislative affairs associate contributes to America’s Essential Hospitals’ advocacy efforts by working with internal and external stakeholders to manage and implement key advocacy projects.

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Legislative Affairs

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as project manager for Policy Assembly events, including:
Supporting the development of program theme and content, including coordinating agendas, speakers, and leading the production of program materials.
Manage internal staff planning meetings for legislative affairs, communications, and meetings teams.
Arranging Capitol Hill meetings for member hospitals.
Tracking and communicating key project developments and deadlines internally and with external consultants.
Serve as project manager for Government Relations Academy sessions, including:
Supporting the development of session agendas and content, including speakers, and leading production of session materials.
Manage Government Relations Academy internal staff planning meetings for legislative affairs and meetings teams.
Tracking and communicating key project developments and deadlines internally and with external consultants and speakers.
Support member engagement activities, including regional advocacy trainings, hospital site visits, non-Policy Assembly lobby days, capitol hill briefings, and webinars
Support legislative affairs team functions and activities, including:
Managing legislative affairs SharePoint webpage
Serving as the point of contact for internal staff on general team activities
Support execution of Political Action Committee and grassroots advocacy network activities, including:
Coordinating PAC operations, including processing check requests, tracking PAC events and drafting PAC communications
Supporting PAC Board of Directors meetings, including preparing materials and recording meeting minutes
Draft content for grassroots advocacy network communications, including action alerts and newsletter articles
Draft legislative affairs communications products, and work with internal stakeholders during the review process, including weekly articles, membership alerts, presentations, formal letters, advocacy toolkits, and original advocacy materials
Develop materials on behalf of the legislative affairs team to support CEO in member hospital recruitment and retention efforts
Monitor relevant legislation and provide summaries of legislation, as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of political/policy experience; relevant Masters degree preferred
Knowledge of health care issues/policy preferred

Ability to synthesize complex materials
Basic understanding of federal lobbying, the Federal political process, and US health care issues
