About the Role
We are seeking a full-time Legislative and Policy Manager to support our clients’ public policy and advocacy engagements. In this role, you will be responsible for providing strategic thought partnership and tactical support to help our clients stay ahead of changes to the legislative and regulatory landscape. You will serve as a key contributor to our team, providing research and analyses on a variety of issues, monitoring critical government activities, and engaging with state and local government officials and staff. You must have strong written and oral communication skills and be able to think analytically and strategically in a collaborative, collegial environment.

Responsibilities

Issues Management and Advocacy:

  • Research, identify, and manage state and local legislative and regulatory issues.
  • Analyze and assess the potential impact of legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Track policy issues and updates by monitoring traditional media, social media, and blogs.
  • Summarize news, industry association publications, and journal articles, capturing trends on key issues.
  • Familiarity with policy issues related to healthcare, nutrition, or sustainability is a plus.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Support clients to build and maintain relationships with elected officials.
  • Maintain a detailed, up-to-date record of our clients’ interactions and engagement with key government stakeholders.
  • Research and prepare detailed briefing materials for meetings with government stakeholders.
  • Organize meetings and prepare debrief summaries.
  • Participate in meetings and events with key stakeholders.

Communications:

  • Prepare messaging and talking points.
  • Draft copy for legislative summaries, policy position papers, presentations, email updates, and stakeholder-facing newsletters.
  • Serve in a secretariat role for working group meetings.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working in a legislative office, Congressional office, or a government affairs consulting agency.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and writing political or policy communications.
  • Experience in the following positions preferred:
    • Legislative Analyst
    • Public Affairs Specialist
    • Government Relations Manager

  • Attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Impeccable research, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Self-starter attitude.
  • Facility with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
