About the Federal Policy Team
Ceres’ Federal Policy Team works with the private sector members of the Ceres Policy (BICEP) Network and the Ceres Investor Network, as well as a broader coalition of companies and investors, to make the business case and build support for innovative climate, clean energy, and transportation policies.
We strategically mobilize our bench of private sector advocates to engage members of the U.S. Congress and the federal administration to support well-designed policies that equitably tackle the climate crisis and take advantage of the business and economic opportunities of an America-led clean energy future.
About You
You are passionate about reducing costs, creating jobs, and strengthening U.S. innovation, competitiveness, and energy security through federal climate and clean energy policy. You are highly motivated and detail-oriented, with an ability to plan and deliver projects both collaboratively and independently.
You are a skilled communicator with an aptitude for considering diverse perspectives and creating shared understanding among stakeholders. You are dedicated to advocating for strong and effective federal climate and clean energy policies for a just and sustainable economy.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Director, Federal Policy, the Manager will support Ceres’ policy work with leading companies and investors, focusing on federal-level climate and clean energy policy in one or more key sectors, especially clean power/electricity to affordably meet growing demand.
This is a full-time, salaried position. The role is hybrid with travel several times per month to in-person events and meetings. The Manager must be located within a commutable distance from the Washington, DC area. Candidates must be flexible to work with employees in all U.S. time zones.
Specific Duties Include:
Help lead Ceres’ work in identifying policy priorities in the power sector at the federal level, developing a plan for business policy engagement, and executing the plan with team members and partners.
Track key federal legislation and developments in Congress and the administration.
Continuously improve knowledge of federal-level climate and energy policies.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key federal policymakers, external partners, and policy allies.
Recruit businesses and investors to engage in federal policy advocacy opportunities.
Prepare materials and prepare corporate and investor participants for engagements with federal policymakers and the press.
Help lead organization and logistics for Ceres’ annual business advocacy event, LEAD on a Clean Economy.
Use earned media, advocacy days, national & regional meetings, direct engagement with policymakers, and other strategies to impact policy positions & outcomes.
Support outreach and dissemination of Ceres’ work, including designing and implementing workshops, webinars/conference calls, newsletters, and other multi-media communications to reach companies, investors, policymakers, and donors.
Serve as a public spokesperson for external speaking and media engagements, and/or as a lead or contributing author for thought leadership projects. Duties may include managing editorial projects, leading/supporting message and content development for reports, briefs, and op-eds, as well as managing consultants and partners.
Participate in crafting fundraising proposals to support designated project or program work.
Participate in meetings with current and potential funders, as needed.
Supervise one staff member and/or intern, including project management oversight, training, and evaluation duties.
Support team in training new staff or providing professional development to team members.
Support special projects of the Policy Program, as necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience required.
Minimum of five (5) years of full-time related experience; experience working on environment, energy, or other climate-related policy issues at the federal level, including on Capitol Hill or at a federal agency, company, trade association, or advocacy group, highly preferred.
Knowledge of climate, clean energy, and/or sustainability issues, with an understanding of corporate perspectives.
Demonstrated ability to bring an advocacy perspective to both analysis and corporate engagement, and to make clear recommendations for actions and next steps.
Demonstrated project management skills for multiple, complex projects.
Planning expertise and ability to deliver projects on deadline and within time and resource budgets.
Effective presentation style, strong spoken and written communication skills.
Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, and motivation.
Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on projects supporting the success of the team and Ceres.
Ability to bring a positive outlook and energetic commitment to daily work at Ceres.
Interest in being part of a diverse workforce and willingness to support Ceres’ Commitment to Inclusion and Equity.
Prior experience managing and training staff or interns.
Proficient with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and e-mail applications.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
The hiring salary is $72,100 – $85,600 with competitive benefits (Pay Grade 15).
