## Your Responsibilities

We are seeking a Government Affairs Manager to advance the company’s policy priorities across the agriculture, smart industrial, and manufacturing sectors. This role will focus on issue advocacy and engagement. The ideal candidate brings policy experience, political acumen, and strong bipartisan relationships.

As a Manager, Government Affairs for John Deere located in Washington, DC, you will:

– **Develop federal strategies** — Develop and execute federal government affairs strategies related to agriculture, smart industrial, and manufacturing policy, with a focus on Democratic policymakers and related organizations.
– **Build relationships** — Build and maintain relationships with Democratic Members of Congress, Congressional staff (e.g., Agriculture, Ways & Means, Finance, Energy & Commerce, Commerce, Transportation, Environment & Public Works Committees).
– **Apply policy expertise** — Preferably bring work experience and policy expertise related to competition, self repair, and biofuels.
– **Monitor legislation** — Monitor, analyze, and report on legislation and regulatory actions related to:
– Farm policy (e.g., Farm Bill programs, conservation, crop insurance)
– Manufacturing policy (e.g., domestic production incentives, trade, tax, self repair)
– Smart industrial policy (e.g., AI, data privacy, precision agriculture)
– Labor and workforce issues (e.g., unions, training programs, workforce development, immigration-related labor policy)
– Energy and climate policy (e.g., emissions, ethanol/renewable energy)
– Supply chain resilience and infrastructure
– **Develop materials** — Develop policy positions, comment letters, briefing materials, and talking points for internal leadership.
– **Coordinate advocacy** — Coordinate advocacy efforts including meetings, site visits, and plant/facility tours for policymakers and staff.
– **Partner cross-functionally** — Partner with enterprise operations, legal, and communications teams to align policy priorities with business goals.
– **Represent the company** — Represent the company in industry associations, coalitions, and advocacy groups relevant to agriculture, smart industrial, and manufacturing policy.
– **Support political engagement** — Support political engagement efforts, including PAC strategy, stakeholder mapping, and compliance with lobbying and campaign finance regulations.
– **Provide strategic insights** — Provide strategic insights on the political landscape and recommend proactive engagement opportunities.

## What Skills You Need

– **5–8+ years experience** in government, Capitol Hill, federal agencies (USDA, EPA, Treasury, Commerce, Labor), trade associations, or corporate government affairs.
– **Democratic political experience** — Demonstrated experience working with or within Democratic political offices, campaigns, or policy organizations.
– **Strong understanding** of:
– U.S. legislative and regulatory processes
– Agriculture policy
– Smart industrial policy
– Manufacturing and supply chain issues
– **Existing relationships** with Democratic policymakers and staff strongly preferred.
– **Excellent communication** — written and verbal, including policy analysis and stakeholder messaging.
– **Ability to translate policy** developments into business implications.

## Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

– Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, political science, or related field.
– Advanced degree preferred.

**Salary Range:** $167,124.00 – $250,680.00 + Benefits
