The Manager of Government Relations Position at Emerson

Overview

The Manager of Government Relations position supports Emerson’s interests in Washington, DC on a range of domestic and international policy issues and business development initiatives. Responsibilities include working with Emerson leadership, trade associations, agencies, Congress, and the White House on domestic policy including direct advocacy. The Manager will have primary responsibility for select issue areas. The position also drives Emerson’s international engagement in Washington and provides logistical support for executive visits and events.

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate and Connect:
    • Coordinate and connect with Emerson management on public policy issues impacting them.
    • Develop member and staff level contacts with agencies and Congress.
  2. Advocacy:
    • Participate in advocacy meetings with policymakers.
    • Research and prepare talking points and presentations for key issues.
  3. Trade Associations:
    • Participate in meetings/committees of major trade associations to represent Emerson.
  4. Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with government relations team to appropriately respond to policy and related business development questions.

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • You facilitate an open dialogue with a wide variety of contributors and collaborators.
  • You understand interpersonal and group dynamics and react in an effective manner.
  • You adjust communication content and style to meet the needs of diverse team members.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of previous Washington experience.
  • Undergraduate degree (public policy major preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, strong public speaking, and writing skills.
  • Experience leading projects or public policy initiatives.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States (Sponsorship will not be provided for this position).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree.
  • Related industry knowledge.
