## POSITION SUMMARY
The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, and advocacy. The Manager, Government Relations and Grassroots Advocacy will be an integral member of the Lupus Foundation of America’s Advocacy and Government Relations team by assisting in implementing the Foundation’s year‑round public policy program. This is a hybrid position, based in the national headquarters of the Lupus Foundation of America in Washington, D.C.

## PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Roles and responsibilities of the Manager, Government Relations and Grassroots Advocacy include, but are not limited to:

– Manage the Lupus Foundation of America’s grassroots program, including developing materials to support grassroots engagement and recruitment of advocates across LFA programs.
– Conduct grassroots advocacy campaigns, including developing advocacy alerts and updates, talking points, and supporting materials for advancing the Foundation’s federal and state policy priorities.
– Monitor federal and state legislative issues relating to the Foundation’s public policy priorities, including those impacting access to care and research (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among others).
– Partner with LFA Network Development staff to ensure Advocacy activities in all regional activities, including educational conferences, support groups, and walks.
– Work with Advocacy & Government Relations team to coordinate participation in and development of strategic coalitions on federal and state policy issues.
– Represent the Foundation in meetings with members of Congress and regulatory agencies.
– Support planning and implementation of the Foundation’s National Lupus Advocacy Summit and other advocacy conferences and events.
– Create policy communications for distribution on the Foundation’s website, social media, electronic newsletters, and other communications channels.
– Convey a professional and positive image that reflects favorably on the Foundation.
– Other duties as assigned.

## POSITION REQUIREMENTS

– Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university.
– Three+ years related experience, preferably on Capitol Hill, in the patient advocacy community, in government, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
– Excellent interpersonal skills and proficient computer and internet research skills.
– Understanding of the legislative process.
– Experience developing and conducting grassroots campaigns and working with advocates.
– Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
– Capable of handling diversified assignments and highly adaptable.
– Ability to work well in a fast‑paced environment interfacing with all levels of management and volunteers, as well as Congressional staff and other elected officials.
– Excellent written and oral communication skills.
– Self‑starter.

## Other Details

– Candidates who reside in the Washington, DC area will report in office at least twice a week.
