What are the primary needs and responsibilities of this role?

You will be responsible for helping to create a coherent and executable strategy to assist VMware U.S. Federal policy goals around multi-cloud, 5G/telecommunications, cybersecurity, modern app development, anywhere work, blockchain, AI, privacy,  among others. You will work in coordination with other government relations team members to help create a coherent and executable strategy to assist VMware global policy goals with an emphasis on U.S. federal policy. The goals of our team are to impact the business and expand VMware’s thought leadership and influence in IT policy.  The position will include monitoring and influencing policies that impact VMware’s products as well as VMware’s IT implementation.  The manager lead will identify and assess current and emerging opportunities within a key set of IT policy priorities that will focus on policies that impact VMware’s federal and commercial businesses.  The position will assist the government relations team by effectively educating government policymakers and other relevant stakeholders on these issues as related to VMware’s business goals, and translating policy impact for VMware executive management.

Success in the Role:  What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work towards completing?

  • As an experienced professional, you will help to develop a robust government relations strategy to best position VMware’s federal and commercial business priorities before Congress and the Administration/federal government agencies while partnering with the internal team and other consultants.
  • You will assist our advocacy efforts to support our federal and commercial sector strategies to Congress and the Administration on multi-cloud, 5G/telecommunications, cybersecurity, modern apps, privacy, IP issues, data protection, patents, data sovereignty and security, among other important issues for the business..
  • You will also work with government relations team members to create opportunities for VMware executives and technical experts to be recognized as global leaders of IT thought.  This could include opportunities to testify before Congress, participate in conferences and speeches, input on public policies, brand awareness and to ensure a “seat at the table” for all relevant IT policy discussions.
  • You will closely collaborate with internal team members to help facilitate high-level meetings between VMware executives and key partners in Congress and the Administration.

What is the leadership like for this role?  What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The team is led by Kyle Victor, based in Washington, DC.  Kyle recently rejoined VMware from the U.S. House of Representatives where is served a Chief of Staff over the last several years.

This is a newly-created U.S. Federal Government Relations and Public Policy team that is being built, under the umbrella of VMware’s dynamic Global Government Relations and Public Policy, which consists of team members around the globe.   This is an exciting opportunity to be part of VMware’s talented, seasoned and growing government relations team and with a unique opportunity to shape policy and advocacy efforts for a leading global software company.  You will also handle, prioritize, and follow through on numerous projects at a time.  This provides excellent opportunities to learn the many aspects of our business and is a great opportunity to work on a wide breadth of interesting and challenging matters with other highly motivated, top-performing professionals, at a fun, dynamic and fast paced company.
