POSITION SUMMARY
ACHP seeks an enthusiastic, experienced communications professional to execute a strategy that advances its vision and mission. As a central member of the communications team, this individual will bring creative and strategic thinking to a fast-paced Washington, DC, advocacy organization. The successful candidate will be passionate about shaping messages at the intersection of politics, policy and health care. Working collaboratively across ACHP, this person will help tell the distinctive story of local health plans partnering closely with clinicians. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, skilled writer and editor and trusted multitasker who can support both member and external communications. This results-oriented role requires exceptional attention to detail and offers significant opportunities for professional development and career growth.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Media Engagement (40%)

Partner with the Communications Director to drive consistent coverage of ACHP, its member companies and initiatives.

Conduct proactive media pushes, manage incoming requests and facilitate interviews.

Nurture press relationships, including expanding ACHP’s network of reporter contacts.

Develop press releases, media statements, op-eds and talking points.

Manage daily monitoring of news clips.

Oversee media contact databases including national, trade and digital media.

Content Development (35%)

Lead the creation and design of high-quality communications collateral, including advocacy one-pagers, issue briefs, infographics, member communications, e-newsletters and the ACHP annual report.

Project manage multiple communications endeavors, including major reports and publications. Work closely with vendors and external consultants.

In partnership with other teams, brainstorm and create new collateral and manage updates to existing collateral.

Serve as backup for social and website content.

Thought Leadership (15%)

Manage ACHP’s external speaking engagement calendar and research and secure speaking opportunities for ACHP leadership and subject matter experts.

Manage policy influencer contact database and communications.

Assist with speeches/presentations, including slide creation and talking points, for ACHP CEO and other leadership.

Member Engagement (10%)

Develop marketing strategy, in partnership with Communications Director, for ACHP events, including creating email campaigns and designing event branding and collateral.

Build and maintain strong working relationships with communications leads at member companies.

Gather and develop member plan stories for use in advocacy and media efforts.

Demonstrate continued knowledge of industry and member issues.

Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Required

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, English or related field.

At least 3 years of communications experience – at least 5 years for senior manager – in complex settings; health care, policy and/or nonprofit communications experience a plus.

Strong project management abilities, capable of advancing multiple communications priorities and working independently with a strong sense of urgency under tight deadlines.

Strong skills using MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher).

Expertise using social media and digital tools to reach target audiences.

Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to boil down complex issues and data into easy-to-understand, compelling messaging.

Functional proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Premiere, Photoshop).

Preferred

Knowledge of federal health policy and/or community health plan business is a plus.

Significant experience using AI in the communications realm with tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Granola.

Experience working with the news media, with a record of print media placement a plus.

Clear understanding of membership organizations and how to elevate the voice of member companies.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is in an office environment, with three in-office days per week.
Must reside in the DMV area. Position is hybrid but not remote.
Some travel required.
