Lead the international policy portfolio in the Government Affairs department, support the development and execution of department priorities and plans at the direction of the CEO and Sr. Vice President of Government Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead TIA’s global policy and advocacy on behalf of TIA’s members, furthering the international interests of communications technology manufacturers in the U.S. and abroad.
- Identify overseas trade and investment regulations that restrict market access for TIA members, with a focus on India, the EU, and North America.
- Advance policies that support the use of secure and trusted ICT vendors in the United States and beyond.
- Proactively communicate ongoing concerns to U.S. government officials, especially USTR and the Departments of Commerce and State, through in-person meetings and written updates.
- Draft policy filings and provide testimony on tariff and trade issues at oral hearings and in response to calls for comment from USTR, the International Trade Commission, and other relevant agencies.
- Conduct Capitol Hill outreach to convey TIA member trade priorities to Congressional staff.
- Continually monitor draft ICT policies in overseas markets that pose potential risks to TIA member operations.
- Staff and support TIA’s International Committee. Coordinate joint advocacy among members on international trade concerns, shape meeting agendas, and host guest U.S. government speakers from USTR and Depts. of State and Commerce at meetings.
- Staff and support TIA’s Standards and IPR Policy Committee. Engage with NIST, ITA, and other agencies in support of global, innovation-first standards development as well as appropriate Intellectual Property Rights protections.
- Support TIA’s standards development work in presentations, filings, and in other venues where appropriate.
- Liaise with other trade associations and companies on issues of concern to amplify TIA’s influence with policymakers.
- Coordinate visits and information exchanges between foreign governments and TIA members.
- Provide timely analysis on key developments in international trade policy.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Candidate must have 3 – 6 years of experience, be a self-motivated, responsible, action-oriented individual with strong leadership potential; have strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working in a small team environment; possess a strong background in international trade/affairs; demonstrated familiarity with telecommunications industry interests and recent developments abroad; strong writing, organizational, research, and analytical skills. Law Degree preferred, BA or BS required.
This position would be full time hybrid remote, though candidates must be based in the D.C. DMV for meetings with TIA staff, TIA members, and U.S. government policymakers.
