Amazon is seeking a high-judgment and self-motivated communications professional to join our Global Corporate Issues & Media Relations team. This person will play an important role in identifying and rapidly responding to emerging topics and issues across the company’s Corporate Communications businesses, which include operations, workplace, customer service, sustainability, economic & community impact, and policy.
This position is for someone who can excel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and thrives in the unpredictable. The role is never boring and requires a team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.
The individual in this role will help manage day-to-day crises and strategically respond to media inquiries while developing forward-looking scenario plans in preparation for negative news cycles. This person must be able to think and communicate clearly to address complicated scenarios. They will be responsible for developing externally facing statements and responses—therefore, exceptional writing skills and the ability to manage feedback and edits quickly and concisely are a must.
The right candidate works effectively in a matrixed global organization, quickly builds effective working relationships, and can maintain high standards under tight deadlines.
The position is based in Seattle.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Monitor, assess, escalate, and resolve a variety of situations occurring simultaneously with excellent judgment
- Formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues and create a concise, well-written narrative to express it
- Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets/reporters to discuss and manage difficult stories, correct inaccuracies, and establish a connection point for future story development
- Pay unrelenting attention to detail
- Effectively represent Amazon as a spokesperson
- Work collaboratively across teams
A Day in the Life
This experienced media professional will be primarily responsible for managing incoming media inquiries from local U.S.-based outlets and providing PR counsel to site/business leadership. The issue could range from a customer service concern, a delivery problem, a major incident at a site, or an accident on the road.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable picking up the phone to speak with reporters to get more information, help educate them, and not be afraid to push back to mitigate reputational risk to Amazon. On-camera experience or willingness to represent Amazon on-camera is a plus.
About the Team
The Global Corporate Issues & Media Relations team strategically manages and anticipates emerging issues and trends that could negatively impact our operations, brand, or reputation. The team interacts daily with members of the news media, serving as on-the-record spokespeople and frequently compiling coverage summaries, writing statements, and monitoring social media.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Skill in developing creative, effective approaches to difficult communications challenges
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment

Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $68,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $147,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
