## **Grassroots Regional Director**

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Grassroots Regional Director assists the Director for Grassroots and Constituent Affairs with the development and implementation of WWP’s grassroots program and oversees day-to-day management of WWP’s volunteer‑advocate engagement within an assigned region.

Primary responsibilities include volunteer‑advocate management, communications, recruitment, and training through direct outreach, meeting and event coordination, and operational oversight. The Grassroots Regional Director plays a key role in elevating the voice of post‑9/11 veterans by developing and managing a large, geographically dispersed volunteer‑advocate network and facilitating advocacy training and engagement opportunities in support of WWP legislative priorities.

## **Duties & Responsibilities**

– Support the Grassroots and Constituent Affairs Director with developing and implementing a comprehensive grassroots strategy to engage WWP Alumni, family support members, and other groups, and assist with advancing WWP policy priorities.
– Oversee WWP regional grassroots engagement for an assigned region (e.g., East, Central, West), providing leadership and operational direction to volunteer‑advocate leaders to achieve organizational goals tied to legislative priorities.
– Build, nurture, and maintain relationships with volunteer advocate leaders, including day‑to‑day outreach via email advocacy campaigns and personal outreach.
– Oversee administration, logistical support, coordination, and execution of advocacy opportunities for WWP Alumni, including volunteer development, coaching, formal recognition, and annual performance reviews.
– Coordinate training and curriculum development for volunteer advocates and secure their participation in local and regional grassroots events and activities.
– Contribute to the development and distribution of grassroots campaign materials, resources, and tools, including virtual advocacy programming via Zoom, Facebook Live, and other platforms.
– Identify and develop operational methods for outreach to WWP’s volunteer‑advocate network, tracking and reporting on engagement progression and outcomes.
– Collect and report results and performance metrics for regional volunteer‑advocate events and activities.
– Assist with planning, preparation, and execution of two large annual congressional fly‑ins and other regional/local events, including recruitment, training, materials development, logistics, meeting scheduling, and related tasks.
– Assist with management of Government and Community Relations casework, including referrals, inquiries, correspondence, tracking, and timely responses.
– Input and maintain accurate records and data within organizational tracking systems (e.g., Salesforce, Quorum, Cvent).
– Speak to diverse audiences about WWP programs and services, develop community support, present WWP vision and values, and inspire involvement.
– Collaborate on WWP initiatives such as the Annual Warrior Survey rollout, Soldier Ride DC, and the WWP Project Advocacy Newsletter.
– Represent WWP at key events, meetings, hearings, conferences, or as directed by the VP of Government and Community Relations.
– Maintain in‑depth knowledge of WWP legislative priorities and MSO/VSO community priorities.
– Attend and participate in required training and meetings, including New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, leadership training, culture/team‑based training, and departmental huddles.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.

– Knowledge of the legislative process, public policy, and advocacy issues.
– Strong advocacy experience and understanding of issues faced by military and veteran populations.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Effective presentation skills for large audiences, small groups, and individuals.
– Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
– Strategic thinking, analytical ability, and creative problem‑solving.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom), and tracking systems (e.g., Salesforce).
– Commitment to the highest standards of ethics and conduct.
– Mission‑driven and collaborative.

## **Experience**

**Requirements**

– Three years of grassroots outreach and development experience, preferably involving veteran issues.
– Five years of relationship‑building experience with military organizations, veterans associations, regional nonprofits, community partnerships, or similar groups.
– Five years of staff or volunteer management experience.
– Three years of experience leading geographically dispersed teams.
– Two years of legislative, advocacy, and policy experience, preferably in government or nonprofit settings.

**Preferences**

– Five years of military experience or experience working with veterans or MSOs.
– Three years of experience organizing grassroots or community outreach campaigns.
– Three years of nonprofit experience.
– Experience helping individuals craft personal stories about sensitive subjects.
– Three years of public speaking experience.

## **Education**

**Requirements**
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, training, or certification.

**Preferences**
None.

## **Certifications & Licensure**

**Requirements**
– Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
– Ability to obtain ASIST Certification within one year of hire.

**Preferences**
– ASIST Certification.

## **Work Environment / Physical Demands**

– General office environment; temperature‑controlled.
– Up to 50% travel.
– May require lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
– Participation in outdoor activities and events under varying weather conditions.

**Salary Ranges**

– **Colorado:** $95,961 – $119,952
– **San Diego/Sacramento, CA & Washington State:** $105,100 – $131,376
– **Los Angeles, CA:** $109,670 – $137,088

All ranges depend on experience, qualifications, and credentials. Annual performance incentives may apply.
