ABOUT SENIOR DIRECTOR, FEDERAL AFFAIRS POSITION
Skills and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly experienced, intellectually curious healthcare policy advocacy professional for the position of Senior Director, Public Affairs with the proven ability to enhance McKesson’s leadership and policy brand in healthcare and related public policy and advocacy. This role reports to the Vice President of US Government Affairs.
McKesson Public Affairs utilizes an integrated advocacy campaign model. The role works closely with business and corporate leadership to drive our political and legislative strategies and priorities. It is also part of a newly integrated US Government Affairs function to leverage success at the federal and state levels. This role will be accountable for leading such campaigns.
McKesson believes public policy outcomes are best shaped in a policy and politically inclusive fashion. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of organizing and working with multistakeholder groups or coalitions to drive measurable bipartisan policy outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating, enhancing, and amplifying McKesson’s policy brand through direct engagement with policymakers, stakeholders, and the broader public policy community.
- Demonstrating a patient-centric outcomes narrative in forums and strategic partnerships.
- Identifying and understanding emerging trends and critical issues in healthcare and curating relevant data and insights to frame appropriate public policy solutions.
- Generating timely and insightful political and policy intelligence that informs business partners on competitive risks and opportunities through policy engagement.
- Strong written advocacy through testimony, legislative drafting, and regulatory comments to communicate a differentiated policy perspective.
- Effectively educating senior business executives on priority issues.
- Supporting the management of the McKesson Employees PAC and its growth, in collaboration with the PAC Board and leads for federal and state affairs.
- Ensuring political and lobbying compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant healthcare public policy experience evidenced by both legislative and policy outcomes, along with progressive responsibilities in either legislative or executive branch roles.
- Experience in corporate, healthcare trade association, or healthcare advocacy organizations is a plus.
- A deep understanding of the federal government ecosystem and its impacts on healthcare policy. Understanding of the state government ecosystem is a plus.
- Demonstrated business and financial acumen at the intersection of public policy.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, with an advanced degree (MBA, JD, or a master’s degree in a health-related field) preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the US. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
