About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Counsel to provide broad support for Garner’s Legal team. First and foremost, our next Legal hire will be a smart, detail-oriented generalist, but experience in both commercial transactions and privacy / data use and governance is required. Experience with healthcare, health plans, or other employee benefits is a major plus, but is not required.
This role reports to Garner’s Head of Legal.
Location: This position is fully remote, and can also be hybrid for candidates located in New York.
What you will do
Independently draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including MSAs, business associate agreements, vendor agreements, data use agreements, partnership agreements, NDAs, and employment-related agreements.
Provide counsel on privacy and data protection-related matters, including compliance with applicable requirements and rules and practical risk management.
Work closely and collaboratively with other business functions, advising on product development and features, internal operations and policies, and day-to-day issues impacting the company and our clients.
Liaise with external counsel, auditors, and other service providers.
Manage existing legal processes and operations and help develop new workflows as the company continues to scale.
Assist with corporate maintenance, including board matters and financings.
What you will bring to the team
3+ years of experience. A mix of in-house (ideally at a high-growth healthcare, technology, or other regulated company) and law firm experience is preferred.
A J.D. from a U.S. law school and admitted to a state bar.
No fear of technical, financial, or data science concepts.
A willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success.
Experience working in a rapidly-evolving startup environment.
Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements is required.
Data privacy / data use and governance experience is required.
Experience dealing with healthcare, health plans, or other employee benefits and related regulatory regimes is an added bonus.
A desire to support our mission to improve the U.S. healthcare system.
Compensation Transparency
The base salary range for this position is $210,000 – $240,000. Individual compensation for this role will depend on various factors, including qualifications, skills, and applicable laws.
