## Position Information

**$70,690 to $118,100**

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water, your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. ## Primary Role

Implements the complex day-to-day management of personnel or multiple operations or programs to continually meet all applicable environmental regulations. Provides technical direction on water quality, treatment, permitting, and regulatory compliance issues. Implements company policy on water quality and related environmental matters.

## Key Accountabilities

– Oversees plant and laboratory procedures for testing and sampling to ensure company and regulatory requirements are met. Provides technical guidance to operations in dealing with water quality–related issues.
– Recommends treatment and procedures for maintaining approved water quality.
– Ensures wastewater treatment and disposal activity is in accordance with regulatory permit conditions.
– Ensures compliance with applicable environmental regulatory permits. Assists local, state, and federal regulatory agencies during inspections.
– Responds (on-call) to water quality and environmental compliance problems, taking appropriate corrective action including documentation to advise management.
– Ensures that customer complaints or inquiries are properly addressed to attempt to resolve any issues.
– Assures that policies, programs, standards of performance, and approved objectives related to water quality and environmental compliance are adhered to.
– Supports water quality activities related to the Environmental Management Program to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
– Conducts special projects and prepares reports.

## Knowledge / Skills

– Strong project management skills (planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, and reporting on project activities).
– Strong sense of organization and schedule; ability to self-direct and prioritize many often non-sequential tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
– **Detail-oriented:** Conduct thorough analyses and evaluations and implement timely decisions and recommendations.

– **Technical proficiency:** Good working knowledge of computer programs, databases, and software.

– Advanced knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment practice is preferred.
– Must have advanced knowledge of water quality and environmental regulations affecting the business.
– Must have strong familiarity with various water treatment technologies and instrumentation used in the business.
– Ability to analyze complex situations and propose viable solutions.
– Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods.

## Experience / Education

– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related discipline preferred. High School Diploma or GED required.
– 2–4 years’ experience in water, wastewater, and/or laboratory operations.
– Previous experience managing a team preferred.
– Valid driver license required.
– DEP license preferred.
– Water treatment experience preferred.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; advanced Excel skills preferred.
– This is a people leader role with 1+ direct reports.

## Travel Requirements

Up to 50% local travel.
Position is based out of: **100 Cheshire Court, Coatesville, PA 19320**

## Work Environment

– Combination of laboratory / wastewater plant / office environment.
– Standard 5‑day indoor office environment within an operations facility / treatment plant.
– General office with field work as required.
