What You’ll Do

Do you believe social media has the power to empower communities and change the world one follower at a time? Do you love data-driven long-term planning AND creatively engaging the latest TikTok trend? Are you passionate about collaboration and leadership? If so, Breakthrough T1D is looking for a Social Media Director to set the overall strategic vision, tone, and direction for our social media presence. You will report to the Vice President of Digital & Creative Services.

You will drive engagement, increase brand awareness, and grow audiences by effectively communicating key themes that include our mission. This leader will ensure that Breakthrough T1D’s social media content and strategy remain fluid, adaptable to changing trends, and always at the forefront of digital innovation.

As Part of This Position, You Will:

  • Grow brand awareness and engagement by developing annual strategic plans and incremental data-informed campaigns and translating organizational goals into compelling content that advances the organization’s growth objectives.
  • Become a trusted, collaborative social media expert and business partner on the social, marcom, and broader Breakthrough T1D team.
  • Actively measure performance and results of organic content on our social channels, providing executive reports on performance and results against KPIs.
  • Ensure Breakthrough T1D’s visibility for key audiences across core social media channels.
  • Work closely with the analytics team to integrate and measure the value and impact of the social media strategy, measures, and actions daily.
  • Lead a team of social media professionals.
  • Work in close collaboration with colleagues from aligned communication channels (e.g., earned media, paid media, celebrity, website, and direct communications) in an agile way.

You’re Good At:

Strategy:
You live in your social media dashboards, naturally see trends in data, and can translate those trends into creative, strategic growth and engagement plans. You can clearly present a strategic social media plan and work collaboratively to integrate it with broader comprehensive marketing plans. You are at the cutting edge of the quickly evolving social media landscape and know when and how an organization should innovate.

Content Creation & Storytelling:
You are adept at leading a team to create compelling, story-based, channel-specific content. You enjoy translating heady scientific and policy updates into engaging social experiences.

Sustainable Community Building:
You have a history of attracting new community members and followers from diverse demographic backgrounds and keeping them engaged for the long term.

You Bring (Qualifications):

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in leading a social media function.
  • Editorial knowledge, celebrity/influencer engagement, short video scripting/storyboarding are very strong advantages.
  • Experience working with Social Media Management Tools like Sprout.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of expertise. Master’s Degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Proven track record of growing a significant social media presence across different social media platforms.
  • Advanced communication skills: oral, written, and active listening.
  • Fluent written and spoken English skills.

Targeted Salary Range:

$120K – $130K

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and infrequently up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
