The general salary range for this position is $53,000 – $70,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training, and education.
Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Specialist, Political Affairs for Humane World Action Fund. In this position you will promote the animal protection goals of the Humane World Action Fund through programs, policies, legislative, and political work. This position supports the Political Affairs department in administration of Political Action Committees, volunteer activities, independent expenditures, endorsements, communications, and fundraising. Provides accounting and administrative support to Humane World Action Fund, including the internship program.
Responsibilities:
- Opens and administers PACs for Humane World Action Fund, including ensuring regulatory compliance in each state, setting up accounting structures, arranging reporting to state election boards, preparing bank accounts, arranging registration paperwork and staffing, and training staff on compliance and political time keeping procedures;
- Creates and maintains records of donations, disbursements, and updates staff and the Accounting department;
- Develops and maintains volunteer engagement program. Coordinates volunteer efforts to conduct voter outreach and support endorsed candidates during election periods, providing contacts, updates, and directions through direct communications and the volunteer database;
- Supports Humane World Action Fund’s endorsement process at the state and local level, including drafting candidate questionnaires, scheduling interviews, compiling research, and preparing supporting documentation;
- Provides accounting support to Humane World Action Fund including creating, troubleshooting, and coordinating approval for purchase orders, submitting and approving invoices, reporting on variance, and managing petty cash. Oversees Humane World Action Fund’s cross-department payment arrangements;
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual PAC reports to comply with Federal Election Commission campaign finance law and State Boards of Elections requirements. Tracks and reports staff expenditures during election periods;
- Administers and supports Humane World Action Fund’s political internship program. Manages recruitment and hiring and maintains the intern application database;
- Maintains political records. Compiles data for presentations and reports;
- Responds to internal and external inquiries concerning matters including Humane World Action Fund administration and the volunteer program;
- Assists in planning and executing Humane World Action Fund-sponsored political events;
- Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Nonprofit Management, or another related field, or equivalent work experience required;
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in project management, political organizing, volunteer coordination, or another related field required;
- Supervisory/management experience preferred;
- Knowledge of political campaigns and endorsements, election law, and lobbying;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
- Ability to multitask and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
- Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;
- Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
This is a full-time hybrid position based in Washington, DC.
