Job Summary

Position will support the Directors of Federal Advocacy and Political Affairs as they forge the Vistra agenda before the U.S. Congress and Administrative agencies such as the Dept of Energy. The position will be part policy, and part political action support. The position will support the federal team, with specific assignments within industry groups and trade associations to ensure positive legislative, policy, and advocacy outcomes. The position will support the company’s Policy Advocacy Committee (PAC), working directly with the PAC Administrator and Director of Political Affairs.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for collaborating on the development of company federal policy positions on key priority issues – energy reforms, environmental, tax and finance, and emerging electric industry transformational opportunities.
  • Monitor priority committees and work with Federal Advocacy team to communicate key issues internally.
  • Work directly with Director of Federal Advocacy to develop company positions and materials.
  • Assist Directors of Federal Advocacy and Political Affairs in development of strong relationships with federal elected officials and their staff as they educate them on company’s business priorities and issues.
  • Serve as staff liaison to certain trade associations.
  • Assist Directors in development of strong relationships with allied companies in Washington, D.C., working with their governmental affairs teams to activate and coordinate their involvement in industry issues.
  • Support PAC activities: communications, recruitment, giving strategies, and some administrative activities as directed by the Director of Political Affairs.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

  • 3–5 years of direct experience in governmental affairs and political action arena and/or Capitol Hill experience.
  • Knowledge of energy power markets and electric industry issues.
  • Knowledge of federal legislative process; knowledge of political campaigns a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, public speaking, and presentation skills coupled with confidence in interacting directly with corporate management and leaders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to handle own administrative processes.
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills.

  • Passage or defeat of priority legislative initiatives.
  • Advancing policy and political relationships on behalf of Vistra.
  • Supporting company’s regulatory, legal, and financial agendas within a public policy context.
  • Help increase PAC participation as called upon; host D.C. events for PAC members.
  • Help organize D.C. fly-ins for company leadership.
  • Adherence to all required ethics and compliance regulations.
  • Successful candidate will be asked to provide writing samples.
