State Government Affairs Director
Position Overview
The Director of State Government Affairs at Exact Sciences will develop, manage, and execute the company’s state advocacy, grassroots, and political compliance programs to support patient access to existing and emerging Exact Sciences products. This position requires a leader with deep understanding of the state legislative process, public policy, advocacy, political compliance, and grassroots.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Effectively represent Exact Sciences to external stakeholders and drive forward our government affairs strategy at the state level.
- Work collaboratively with cross functional team members in market access, patient advocacy, employee engagement, corporate impact, and commercial to position Exact Sciences as a leading cancer diagnostic company among state policymakers and other external stakeholders.
- Facilitate appropriate connections with business and commercial leaders to key government agencies and officials.
- Drive advocacy strategy and support EXAS Board Members in state-based coalitions and trade associations, including California Life Sciences, MassBio, MDBio, BioForward, AZBio.
- Develop and monitor robust state stakeholder mapping and continuously track legislation and policy.
- Develop US political compliance program from the ground up with support of external vendors.
- Develop and lead company-wide grassroots capability with support of external vendors.
- Develop the production of high-quality written recommendations, briefings, publications, presentations, and other collateral that communicate complex messages clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences.
- Serve as the policy point of contact for select partners and stakeholders and communicate timely and relevant information/knowledge sharing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- 10+ years of experience working in government, public policy, government affairs, trade association or related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated ability to interact directly with key stakeholders in the state policy environment.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Requirements/Competencies
- Advanced degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Health preferred or applicable comparable experience.
- Demonstrated familiarity with diagnostic regulatory policy landscape, including major legislative and regulatory trends and ability to grasp technical details quickly.
- Demonstrated familiarity with state legislatures processes and procedures.
- Travel (up to 10%) as needed.
Salary Range:
$168,000.00 – $268,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US – DC – Washington on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms, conditions, and eligibility requirements of the applicable plans.
