Key Responsibilities

KBR is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Strategic Communications Advisor to assist the staff of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space Acquisition and Integration (ASAF(SA&I)) at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

The ASAF(SA&I) has overall responsibility for Department of the Air Force (DAF) space systems acquisition and overseeing the integration of allied, civil, and commercial space capabilities into Department of Defense space architectures.

These responsibilities are carried out in close collaboration with the Chief of Space Operations (CSO) and the US Space Force staff.

The Assistant Secretary also serves as the Space Service Acquisition Executive (SAE), overseeing and directing the activities of the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO), Space Systems Command (SSC), and the Space Development Agency (SDA).

The Assistant Secretary’s guiding objectives are to:

Drive speed into space acquisitions

Make our space architecture more resilient

Integrate our space architecture with other war fighting domains

Drive program management discipline across our acquisitions

Ensure that space and ground acquisitions are time-phased to optimize operational availability

Achieving these objectives requires a workforce with broad, diverse, and deep skills in systems engineering, program management, architecture analysis, program planning and budgeting, and executive-level communications and support.

The Strategic Communications Advisor directly supports the Assistant Secretary’s Executive Action Group by performing a variety of functions including:

Providing technical support and expertise in planning and preparing strategic communications opportunities and associated communications media related to policies, priorities, and congressional matters across the National Security Space (NSS) acquisition enterprise

Conducting research and analysis to write, edit, and qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate executive communications to ensure products align with Department of the Air Force public communication efforts

Advancing the ASAF(SA&I)’s priorities through strategic communication media, including news media and industry and Congressional engagements

Drafting and coordinating ASAF(SA&I)’s and Military Deputy’s official correspondence, presentations, speeches, briefings, meeting prep, and public appearances

Collaborating with senior-level decision-makers’ staffs from DoD, IC, civil and international partners, and other U.S. Government agencies to help ensure synchronized and coordinated messaging across the defense space enterprise and, as appropriate, the National Security Space enterprise

Helping manage the organization’s workflow accounts on unclassified and classified networks and the Task Management Tool (aka Enterprise Task Management Software Solution or ETMS2), to ensure action items are appropriately tasked, tracked, and closed in a timely manner

The selected candidate should thrive in a work environment with high expectations and be able to manage diverse assignments with attention to detail.
