POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for someone who is a news junkie and also highly professional, diligent and responsible with a combination of common sense, flexibility and a great sense of humor. She/He/They will be able to juggle multiple tasks at once, working independently and collaboratively to meet expectations and deadlines. Proven written skills and success with placing media stories are a key factor to be successful at this job. Strong organizational skills are a must, as is an ability to get the job done. In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to recognize emerging, unexpected needs quickly and to address them appropriately, either independently, with colleagues or through discussing with senior leadership.                                                 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads projects with little or no supervision.
  • Develops and directs objectives and strategies and implementation of PR projects for clients.
  • Work directly with clients to manage their account needs.
  • Supervise, mentor and hire junior-level staff.
  • Ability to cultivate new business and/or pitch potential clients.
  • Daily interaction with media outlets to discuss upcoming story ideas.
  • Daily account management activity such as strategic planning, on-boarding, agendas, activity reports, media monitoring and off-boarding, etc.
  • Manage social media campaigns for clients
  • Attend and facilitate media interviews, when necessary
  • Assist in the researching, writing and development of new business proposals and presentations
  • Assists in developing and implementing marketing strategies and tactics to promote Scott Circle Communications
  • Create targeted media lists for broadcast, radio, print and online outlets
  • Proactively pitch media outlets, including broadcast, print, radio and online media
  • Write and edit media materials such as media alerts, fact sheets, bios and case studies
  • Various administrative duties

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS THE POSITION WILL BE EVALUATED ON

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years public relations experience.
  • Previous experience at a PR firm is preferred.
  • Political campaign and/or Hill experience is also preferred.
  • Established relationships with members of the media.
  • A consistent record of success in placing media stories with national and local outlets along with prominent bloggers.
  • Managing junior staff and a team of PR professionals
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once
  • Excellent communications skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, motivated and able to “hit the ground running”
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and general Internet and e-mail
